RACE TO THE SKY (original) (raw)

Cancellation Notice
After extensive deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Race to the Sky. The safety of our mushers, dogs, volunteers, and supporters is always our top priority.
This winter’s trail conditions—bare ground, icy and rock‑hard sections, unseasonably warm temperatures, and no measurable snow in the forecast—left us without a safe or sustainable route for the race.
We know how disappointing this is for everyone who trains, volunteers, sponsors, and follows the race each year. We deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support, and we look forward to coming back strong for the 2027 Race to the Sky.

Our History Race to the Sky is Montana’s premier winter sporting event, and recognized as one of the most challenging and beautiful sled dog races in the world. In 1986, the races debuted under the name of the Montana Governor’s Cup Sled Dog Race, featuring the inaugural 500-mile continuous race in February of that year. Since then, Race to the Sky has remained an Iditarod qualifier. Our Races are a test of physical strength, mental toughness, teamwork, and a special bond between man and his canine friends. Working together, teams negotiate the trail through Montana’s scenic Rocky Mountains. Picture
