月見草のゆめ＊ Dream of Evening Primrose

主菓子「月見草」＊ "Evening Primrose" like the moon light
黄昏に浮かぶ月見草、またの名を待宵草といいます。
竹久夢二は「宵待草」という歌を作りました。
今年の中秋の名月は9月13日、待ち遠しいですね。

The evening primrose is called Moon viewing flower in Japanese.
Takehisa Yumeji (1884-1934), a famous illustrator
composed a song on this plant (the last video in this article).

やなせ・たかし『よみがえれ！抒情画―抒情画のルーツから新感覚派の誕生まで』
「日本の抒情画の始祖は竹久夢二である」とやなせ・たかしは言います。
同世代の抒情画家、高畠華宵の絵と並べると夢二の個性が際立ちます。
夢二がほぼ独学で、印象派の影響を強く受けているのに対し、
華宵は幼小のころ絵草紙を愛し、日本画を平井真水に学びました。
祇園の華やかな宵を愛して「花宵（→華宵）」と号する一方、
洗礼を受けてパウロというクリスチャンネームも得ています。

According to Yanase Takashi, Yumeji is a pioneer lyric painter.
He studied painting by himself under the influence of Impressionist school,
while Takabatake Kayo(1888-1966), another lyric painter
learned Japanese style painting by a professional painter in Osaka.
His name Kayo (華宵) derived from beautiful(花,華) evening(宵) of Gion, Kyoto
and he got a Christian name Paul at the time of his baptism.

『よみがえれ！抒情画―抒情画のルーツから新感覚派の誕生まで』

華宵の舞妓（上）と夢二の舞妓（左下）を比べてみると、
日本画を学んだ華宵の絵のほうがバタ臭く見えるのは不思議です。
夢二の横顔美人に近いのは、むしろ戦後の林静一の絵です（右下）。

Comparing Maiko dancer painted by Kayo (above fig.) or Yumeji（lower left),
the former has more occidental features than latter.
It is Hayashi Seiichi (1945-) (lower right) that succeeded to Yumeji's style.
