[This is] a benediction and eulogium regarding Vedanta Desika, the author of the foregoing 28 stotras. The thirteen slokas … are known as Vedanta Desika Mangalam (or Mangalaasaasanam), meaning wishes for a superior’s welfare uttered by an inferior. Kumara Varadacharya, son and disciple of Desika, is the author of this Mangalam. This work shows to us not only the devotional fervour of the disciple towards the Acharya, but the contemporary recognition that the Acharya had earned in his lifetime, the titles conferred on him and the esteem in which he was held. Sloka 4 tells us how Desika was looked upon as a divine incarnation by his contemporaries.
[Following this are] six selected slokas from Saptati-Ratna-Maalika, a hymn in praise of Desika by a disciple’s disciple, Prativadi Bhayankaram Annan by name.
