Prompt 1A : "There are few joys to compare with the telling of a well-told tale." -- Charles de Lint
Tell us a well-told tale about you.
A well-told tale?
I'm not sure how well the people telling of it do, but I can tell you of a tale that gets repeated a lot throughout Port Royal.
It's the tale of the supposed highborn lady that not only fell in love with a Blacksmith, but was kidnapped by pirates, and then helped a pirate escape from the hangman's noose.
Yes, I was kidnapped. It was true that I had demanded to be taken to their captain, but it was because I wanted to speak of Parlay with him. I wanted him to agree to leave Port Royal immediately and never come back.
That... didn't work out quite as well as I had hoped that it would.
The captain, Barbossa decided to keep me when he sailed away from my home. Of course, that could be because I had the cursed coin he was looking for and I did tell him my name was Elizabeth Turner. Well, my maid had told me that they were there to kidnap me because I was the governor's daughter and when they asked me who I was, I said the first name that popped into my mind. Later, when I realized what they were planning, there was no way I was going to tell them anything about Will.
Will and Jack Sparrow came after me -- Will to rescue me, Jack to carry out his own agenda. Will rescued me, but ended up as a captive himself. I couldn't let that situation stand as it was, so I went after Will -- much to the dismay of my father and James Norrington. The rescue and defeat of Barbossa was a success, but then the soldiers arrested Jack and were going to hang him.
Will said that it was wrong, and I agreed with him. Jack is a scoundrel and a terrible pirate, but somewhere in there he is a good man -- and he did help us. So, Will and I got between Jack and the soldiers. James asked me if I felt as strongly about this as Will did, and I said yes. Jack escaped and Will and I...
Will told me he loved me, and I told him I felt the same.
Well-told tale? I'm not sure I agree with how they tell it, but true all the same.
