The purpose of this study was to identify the level of damage of buildings and to identify wood destroying beetles in buildings in the Komplek Bincau Indah 1, Bincau Village, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. The method used in this study is a descriptive method to describe the actual situation about the object under study with direct observation and interview techniques. The samples taken were the houses of residents who were attacked by wood-destroying beetle as many as 36 samples. The captured beetles are then preserved to identify their species. The level of damage to buildings is divided into 3 levels, namely light damage 36.11%, moderate damage 58.33% and severe damage 5.55%. The average intensity of damage to the girder is 11.52%, the rafters are 11.66%, the truss is 11.52% and the frame is 3.33%, while the ceiling and door are not damaged (0%). Nowadays in the market, many uses of fruit wood were used as an alternative effort to overcome deficiencies of wood supply or availability. Most of these fruit woods has a low durability grade. With a low level of durability, the wood will be susceptible to pests such as wood destroyer termites. One of the fruit woods is Durian wood which has II-III durable classes. To increase its service life, Durian wood must be preserved. Acacia’s wood vinegar can be practicaled as a cast preservative to prevent dry wood termite attack. The average value of absorption and retention are influenced by the duration of the concentration and soaking time of Acacia’s wood vinegar. The longer soaking time and the higher concentration of Acacia’s wood vinegar, absorption and retention values were also high....

This study explores the trend of forest and land fires with spatial approaches and causes of forest fires through empiricall method as well as alternative controls. The method used GIS software, ArcGIS for Desktop 10.3.1 provided by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), in-depth interviews and observation. The results show that the hotspots are positively correlated, the closer to the road network, the greater the intensity or number of fires, and the tendency of forest fires and randomly shaped land from time to time due to the opening of new lands for shifting cultivation. Causes of forest and land fires are the activities of cultivation, road access and climate. One of the actions that can be taken in an effort to maintain the sustainability of forest stand biomass is to map the distribution of biomass, and monitor changes or dynamics of stand biomass from time to time in a sustainable manner. This study aims to build a model based on remote sensing imagery to estimate the total biomass of tropical rainforest stands in Mandiangin Hill, South Kalimantan. The models developed in this study are based on vegetation indices extracted from Sentinel-2 MSI Imagery. A total of ten vegetation indices were tested in this study. For the construction process and validation of stand biomass estimation models, biomass information was measured directly in the field using a number of measuring plots. Stand biomass estimation models were made by correlating stand biomass information from the field with vegetatio...

The purpose of this research is to determine the perceptions and attitudes of Community Forestry farmer groups on the apiculture program. The results of the study explained that members of the farmer group strongly agreed with the apiculture program, because they profoundly understood honey bee feed cultivation will benefit for the rehabilitation of protected forests and the honey can increase their income. The attitude of members of the farmer group in running the apiculture program is relatively low due to bear pest problems, remote locations, and limited technical coaching. Solutions that can be taken to overcome these problems are pest control, equipment subsidies and kelulut bee cultivation.

We studied a fragmented secondary forest in South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, to gain ecological information and to quantify the effect of human activities on accumulated biomass and tree composition. A fragmented secondary forest of about 0.5 ha was divided into 27 edge and 18 inside plots with size of 10 m 10 m and the stand biomass, tree composition and human activities were analyzed. Mean aboveground biomass (AGB) in edge and inside plots were 63.2 and 71.2 Mg ha 1 , respectively and the difference was insignificant (t-test: p 0.1), while the Shannon-Wiener index (H ʼ) value of the later tended larger than former (t-test: p 0.1). Native trees tended to be more in inside plots comparing with edge plots, and human planted trees were identified in mainly edge plots. There were also large differences in biomass (wood) removal by rural people (1.350 and 0.248 Mg ha 1 year 1 , respectively). The characteristics of each type of fragmented secondary forest were influenced by the human activity of wood collection: small-diameter trees, which should have been successors to the existing canopy, were frequently removed.

The bark can be used for the manufacture of mosquito coils; so many people collect them for sale. The selling price of wet-bark reaches 231-385 USD per ton. High prices of Gemor lead to increased exploitation. Conservation efforts are not done yet, so this species will be endangered. This study was conducted to determine the characteristics of Gemor habitat and phytochemical confounds of leave, twig, and bark. From this research which part can produce insecticide besides stem bark can be known. It can be used for an alternative for utilization of Gemor besides bark. It was revealed that the Gemor tended to live well on habitats which have on peatlands, sometimes flooded, pH of 3.52-3.58, and pyrite of 0.17-0.21%. It needed N of 1.21-1.43%, P of 9.00-9.10mg/100g, C of 3.78-9.29%. This species was living generally in secondary forests with a light intensity of 3-5% and humidity of 88-99%. Phytochemical analysis indicated the other anatomy of Gemor besides the bark, namely leaves and twigs also contain secondary metabolites, such as; alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, and phenolic. Flavonoids and phenolic compounds were potentially as natural insecticides. Flavonoids and phenolic in leaves were higher than the bark, so it can be said that the leave of Gemor was potentially as natural insecticides.
