readthealphabet - Profile (original) (raw)

This reading community is inspired by the 2005 Alphabet Reading Challenge at Bookcrossing.com. The purpose is to read 26 books, one for each letter of the alphabet, within one year's time.

The Rules:
1. Be nice. Flaming is not tolerated. Not everyone enjoys the same books or authors, and just because someone says "XXX wouldn't know plot if it bit them in the arse!" does not mean that you are honor bound to defend XXX's work.
2. All spoilers must be hidden behind an LJ cut.

How To Get Started:
1. Choose whether you are going to count books by Author's Last Name or Book Title.
2. Pick your start date.
3. Post your list as often as you like (after each book read, once a month, whatever).
4. Use LJ tags to put your username on each post, please.
5. LJ-cut long posts as a courtesy to overwhelmed friends-lists.

Options to Consider:
1. Author's Last Name is harder than Book Title. You can do both if you like.
2. Book Titles should obviously not consider A, AN, or THE as the start of a title, but the book police won't show up if you choose to do so.

Curiosity Killed the Cat:
1. Ebooks count (Project Gutenberg, etc).
2. Novel length fanfiction counts. Personally, I wouldn't count Works-in-Progress, but once again, the book police won't show up if you choose to do so.
3. Non-fiction and textbooks count. If you want to count your Microbiology textbook, by all means, go ahead (but be honest - did you read it cover to cover? *winks*)
4. Magazines don't count. But no book police...blah,blah,blah.
5. BOOK REVIEWS are not required, but are appreciated for those looking for new books to read. Even if you don't want to type up a longer review, grade/rate your books - stars, A-F, etc. Thanks!
