Region of Hanover, Lower Saxony, a multi-phase
settlement along a watercourse has been exposed. The
merely partially excavated settlement existed from the
Iron Age up to Merovingian period and consists of several
longhouses, subsidiary buildings and wells. During the
latest settlement period a small early Merovingian cemetery
of inhumation burials and a horse grave was nearby
erected. The burials have been extremely costly built and
equipped. Their inventory shows Frankish, Thuringian and
local references, which at least partially are related to the
mobility of the deceased.
