Unions!!! [May. 14th, 2007|02:55 pm]eh... retail.
[**Current Mood** |calmcalm]I agree strongly that all major retail chains should have a union program in place for their associates! According to Wikipedia...A trade union or labor union is "a continuous association of wage-earners for the purpose of maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment."[1]Over the last three hundred years, trade unions have developed into a number of forms, influenced by differing political and economic regimes. The immediate objectives and activities of trade unions vary, but may include:Provision of benefits to members: Early trade unions, like Friendly Societies, often provided a range of benefits to insure members against unemployment, ill health, old age and funeral expenses. In many developed countries, these functions have been assumed by the state; however, the provision of professional training, legal advice, and representation for members is still an important benefit of trade union membership. Collective bargaining: Where trade unions are able to operate openly and are recognised by employers, they may negotiate with employers over wages and working conditions. Industrial action: Trade unions may organize strikes or resistance to lockouts in furtherance of particular goals. Political activity: Trade unions may promote legislation favorable to the interests of their members or workers as a whole. To this end they may pursue campaigns, undertake lobbying, or financially support individual candidates or parties (such as the Labour Party in Britain) for public office.I suppose my question is... why are retailers so afraid of this? Because of profits!! Unions would support better work wages and conditions which would cost them MONEY!We should get started and offer a website with a petition that people could sign... other than that, I wouldn't know what to do?

My two cents... [May. 10th, 2007|11:24 am]eh... retail.
Retail is all about customer service and it should be... to an extent. I think what the major retailers are ignoring are the facts that if they make their associates happy, they become more productive, that positive message gets sent out to their customers, thus their customers buy more etc. I don't understand why retailers are the way they are. In my job, we are forced to take back anything and many customers go in repeatedly making fradulent returns knowing they can get away with it. I don't understand it and I don't think it's right... companies lose millions... so why always bend over backwards for people that are essentially screwing you? What does everyone else think of this?To be honest... I think retail should be union-ized!

The TJX saga continues [Apr. 25th, 2007|12:05 pm]eh... retail.
[**Current Mood** |bouncybouncy]Those who know me well, know that my hatred towards T.J. Maxx and it's parent company knows no bounds! Found out on the news yesterday that the banks are beginning with their suit against T.J.X. on behalf of the 45 million people who's identities were stolen. I realize I am one of those people and I am happy! My dad asked why I would gloat about this, that I could lose my job and to be honest... I don't care if the company goes bankrupt and I do end up unemployed. It would be the kick in the teeth I need to get THE HELL OUT OF RETAIL. heeREAD ME you know you wanna.

Hi [Apr. 24th, 2007|01:26 pm]eh... retail.
[**Current Mood** |curiouscurious]I worked in retail for a number of years (ROSS) and I hated it! Retailers need to give their associates more credit. My managers used to ALWAYS cave into the customer's demands no matter HOW insane they were. I had this one customer get pissed because I bent her receipt over. She flipped and wanted to speak to my manager! WTF!? She said I was rude and purposely crinkled her receipt. She told everyone that she would never shop in our store again. The next day... I saw her. What a bitch.Anyhoo, I just wanted to say 'ello to the community.
