Until the mid-1980s, The Sporting News kept index cards on active umpires listing biographical data for some of them as well as league assignments. We were allowed access to these cards to gather information for our database. Thank you to the fine people at TSN for allowing us use and display these cards. There are 335 for umpires who made the majors and 5,137 for those who entire careers were in the minor leagues.

Umpire Cards Directory, which provides access to all of the cards, the vast majority of which are for ones for those who never worked in the majors. For convenience, links to the cards for major league umpires are shown below.
