1:17 pm - Sylvia Plath |
crashaddict99 My boyfriend recently picked up "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath. He says he can;t really get into, and I must admit it IS a rather depressing book to read. The funny part is, this book so reflects her actual life, all it ever made me want to do is find every bit of information on Sylvia Plath possible. Now alot of people compare The Bell Jar to Catcher in the Rye.I've never read Catcher in the Rye personally, but I don't think the Bell Jar could compare.I think the Bell Jar really is in a class by itself, simply because it's a reflection of Plath's life, and nearly autobiographical. From what I hear, Catcher in the Rye is basically about a guy wanting to get laid.Any other opinions out there?current mood: thoughtful (4 comments | comment on this) |

3:00 pm - Now here is a book . . . |
crashaddict99 that completely surprised me. I just finished reading "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden. At first I had thought it would be a romance novel of some sort, but it was the complete opposite of that altogether. The sotry is compelling, and you feel so clsoe to the main character, you don't want to put the book down until you've read it all!I hear rumors of a possible movie being made of the book, and released by Sony, but to all those true book readers out there who enjoy a good story and emotional characters. . . pick up this book! You'll spend the time reading it, and you will understand Sayuri's anguish, her joy and her heart.A definite MUST READ.current mood: pleased (comment on this) |

11:12 pm - Tombraider - the movie |
randomcrash When I first heard that Angelia Jolie was cast as Lara Croft, I was a little upset. "They should have gotten somebody better," I thought. But then I thought, "well. . . who is good enough to play Lara?" so I figured Mrs. Jolie was as good as any. Well, I'm happy to say that she did a phenominal job. her potrayal of lady Croft was terrific, from the accent, to the skimpy clothes, right down to some amazing stunts - that she did all herself by the way.The movie was excellent. Action packed throughout the entire thing. It centers around an underground group of elite british men who call themselves "the illuminati". they've been around for about five thousand years waiting for the planets to align so that they can use some magical artifacts to gain control of time itself. Lara comes into the picture when she inherits one of the artifacts from her father. And so the battle for good vs. evil is begun. Sounds pretty trite huh. But somehow, they pull it off exceptionally well. Looking back on the movie, I'm thinking to myself it was pretty predictable and I should have seen half of it coming, but I was glued to the screen for every second. Hats off to the director for making it coincide with the games so much. Just a few examples - the secret room that lara finds in her mansion is in the same place that it is in the games, only she didn't have to flip a switch in the garden maze to open it, she just bashes it in with a big heavy metal thing - the camera work on the dog sled scene where the camera seems to follow lara througha cave so that you see the back of her, just like when you're playing the game - and when she shoots at enemies, she doesn't have any fancy shooting that she does like in the cop movies. She's always got one pistol in each hand, arms locked, blowing away whatever's in front of her. =)It's a great flick, even if the theatres jacked up the price again to see it. $7.75 now. geesh (comment on this) |

3:34 am - Netscape is a fucking peice of trash |
randomcrash but then again, what should I have expected form something owned by AOhelL?so I download the thing, fed up with IE crashing all the time, and after iit freezes up seven or eight times on opening, i uninstall/reinstall. no luck. unisntall/reinstall again. same thing.so I get rid of it and move on. now a day later, I realize that when I uninstalled it, it didn't take it's file associations with it, and it left shortcuts to webpages all over my start menu, whihc makes no sense to me becasue the shortcuts are the file extensions it didn't change. so I'm clicking on these shortcuts that netscape left and it's trying to open them with netscape, which isn't even on my system anymore. I know this stuff can be easily fixed, but the point is that I shouldn't have to. netscape sucks.and Opera isn't much better. Opera is great for just surfing, but as soon as you want to watch a movie or stream some audio, yer shit out of luck. does anybody out there know of a decent browser? (1 comment | comment on this) |

1:08 pm - "Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk |
randomcrash Exceptional book. Definite "must read" for fight club fans out there. Choke follows the life of Victor Mancini and his close friend Denny, who easily translate into Edward Norton and Brad Pitt in your head if you've seen fight club. Victor's mother is in a nursing home suffering form alzheimer's disease and the medical bills are piling up, so in order to pay for them, Victor goes to various restaurants and pretends to choke. When someone comes to his rescue with the heimlich, he makes good on the old chinese proverb "Once you've saved someone's life, you're responsible for them". Victor is also a med school drop out and a sex addict. This comes into play when he falls for one of the nurses caring for his mother, who has some whacked out ideas on life all on her own. Great read. (comment on this) |
