Research paper thumbnail of The Mediation of Financial Behavior to Financial Literacy and Spending Habits of Gen Z: An Exploratory Factor Analysis

Journal of Global Awareness, 2024

Financial behavior is a mediator of Generation Z. Financial literacy is a very important dimension in making financial decisions, and this research highlighted the direct and indirect impacts that financial literacy exerts on spending behavior. Data is collected from 317 respondents using a structured questionnaire measuring financial literacy, financial behavior, and spending behavior. Correlation, regression, mediation analysis, and Structural Equation Modeling have been used in evaluating these relationships. Financial literacy directly reflects a strong relationship with spending behavior, and its coefficient is 1.167. Financial behavior, therefore, exercises a strong mediation effect on this relationship with a mediation coefficient of 0.797, thus indicating that financial behavior is an essential tool in successfully translating financial knowledge into responsible spending. From these findings, greater financial literacy and responsible financial behavior may increase the aggregate financial efficacy of Generation Z. Although the current study heavily focuses on the fact that financial literacy and behavior are highly associated with financial well-being, it shows that targeted financial literacy education programs on either behavior or financial literacy enhance healthier spending behavior. The scope of future studies involves considering the role of income and personality characteristics as well as an elongation of the time horizon to uncover the impact of financial literacy on shifts in the individual's financial well-being.

Despite the significant potential for ABCD technologies, the integration in healthcare, agriculture, financial, and educational sectors to increase efficiency, security, and ability to make decisions, challenges that are experienced include infrastructure constraints, skill gaps, and regulatory requirements. It manifests the enormous potential of ABCD if applied to engineering models such as Industry 4.0 and digital innovation in health care, e-commerce, and supply chains, predictive maintenance, transparent transactions, and automation. Early adopters can already be discerned in the Philippines, such as AI applications in agriculture and mental health, blockchain for secure records, cloud applications in education, and data analytics in health care-but still, lack of infrastructure and inability to find the people with proper skills slow the movement. Sectors like health and manufacturing, which have high growth potential, these technologies can become competitive engines for the Philippines. Recommendations on digital infrastructure, data privacy, public-private partnerships, and investment in workforce development would facilitate an enabling environment for supporting the culture of ABCD technologies.

Study design/methodology/approach: Employing a quantitative design, specifically a descriptive correlational design, while utilising a purposive sampling technique to collect the data from 171 respondents through a structured self-made questionnaire and applying the following statistical tools like mean, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis to uncover the relationship between service crew commitment and inventory management efficiency in quick service restaurant.

Findings: It reveals a strong or positive correlation between service crew commitment and inventory management efficiency in quick-service restaurants. The key factors affecting service crew commitment are training programs, recognition and feedback mechanisms, standardised procedures, resource availability, and organisational culture. The regression analysis emphasises that both service crew commitment and the contributing factors significantly enhance the efficiency of inventory management.

Originality/value: The uniqueness of this study is its investigation into the relationship of service crew commitment to the efficiency of inventory management in QSRs within a specific area covered by Quezon City, Philippines. This focus was not previously covered in the body of existing research. It pinpoints the factors that significantly affect crew commitment and inventory efficiency, including training, recognition, standardised procedures, availability of resources, and organisational culture. The quantitative descriptive-correlation approach presents useful data with which to act by showing a strong relationship between these variables. The authors have provided managers with practical ways to improve service crew engagement and optimise inventory processes to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency, especially in the Philippine QSR industry setting.

Social media is viewed as a new learning opportunity about finance, yet it tends to nurture consumerist tendencies associated with impulsive buying. Therefore, the research gap in the existing studies aims at detailing mechanisms by which social media impacts students' spending.

Study design/methodology/approach: A descriptive-correlational design was used, with responses obtained from 308 senior high school students through structured questionnaires. This allowed for assessing the correlations between social media influence, students' financial attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control, and spending behaviour patterns.

Findings: Key findings depict a good correlation between students' exposure to social media and their spending behaviour, which would articulate how digital platforms influence financial attitudes and decision-making. Integrating educational finance management into school curricula would support students in learning to think critically and responsibly about their finances. However, this cross-sectional study limits generalisation and calls for the agenda of longitudinal research in this area.

Originality/value: This paper contributes to the existing literature based on particular mechanisms about the impact of social media on student spending behaviour, especially within the context of Manila. It indicates the practical value of infusing financial education into school programs, promoting media literacy and financial responsibility in students to foster independence and long-term fiscal awareness.

Employing a quantitative-descriptive research design, surveys, and statistical analysis, significant correlations with a P-Value of (.000) and Computed-r of (.699**), suggest that were found between financial activities and management plans, highlighting the relationship between financial literacy, behavior, and well-being. Higher financial literacy correlated with increased spending behavior, while positive financial behavior led to modest increases in savings. Financial well-being may influence financial behavior and spending habits, potentially impacting allowances received. Applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) elucidates how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived control shape financial intentions and behaviors. Despite initial significant findings, differences in spending habits based on allowance source were not significant, suggesting random variation. Understanding these dynamics can inform interventions to enhance financial literacy and promote responsible financial behaviors among Grade-12 students.

Using a descriptive and correlational research method, data was collected from 51 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The findings revealed that most employees are male, around 35 years old, with college degrees, and 3-5 years of experience in rank-and-file positions. The assessment of supply chain management highlighted the importance of accurate demand forecasting, product diversification, and efficient distribution channels. Similarly, inventory management was emphasized for cost-effective operations, stressing the need to minimize inventory levels while maintaining adequate safety stocks. Statistical analysis showed a highly significant relationship (r = 0.9999) between supply chain management and inventory operations, indicating their close interdependence. Recommendations for improvement include regular assessments, enhanced inventory tracking systems, interdepartmental collaboration, training initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This study sheds light on supply chain and inventory dynamics at IHI Incorporated, offering actionable insights for enhancing operational efficiency and achieving organizational objectives.

Focusing on whether specific attitudes contribute to career advancement, the research utilized a questionnaire to assess job involvement, efficiency, and organizational commitment among 305 employees from companies like Advantix Marketing, EMF Corporation, Gakken Philippines, Kolin Inc., and ASERCO. Analysis using Pearson correlation revealed significant relationships: job involvement showed a negative but significant correlation with promotion, while job efficiency and organizational commitment positively correlated with it. These findings suggest that while job involvement may not directly lead to promotions, efficiency and commitment are key attitudes for career advancement.
