It affects individual and organizational performance by facilitating coordination, creativity, leadership, learning, teamwork and trust. Social Networking Sites (SNS) find wide adoption across the globe transforming the way people interact and form social capital. It provides options for information disclosure helping locate people with common interest and maintain ties with a larger network compared to offline networks broadening scope of bridging social capital. Internet based social networks have transformed the way in which people socialize and share information ensuing profound implications for businesses. Extant literature on SNS research does not provide a scale to measure social capital generated from SNS use and strategic and operational benefits emanating from it. This paper presents a scale, drawing upon existing scales, to measure social capital generated on SNS, and perceived organizational benefits of SNS use. The scale has been empirically validated on a sample of working professionals in India. The scale reliability and validity was found to be satisfactory, rendering it useful instrument for academic research. Practitioners too can use the scale to measure effectiveness of their SNS implementation strategy.

This paper examines corporate users' attachment to SNS. An analysis of 316 survey responses showed that corporate users' socialization in large public SNS was steeped in perceived work-related benefits, which in turn nourished their SNS attachment. Social use outperformed informational use in generating perceived work-related benefits from SNS. Weak ties in large heterogeneous networks resulted in strategic and operational benefits, whereas the effects of strong bonding in homogenous networks were limited to operational benefits. The paper contributes to research on SNS use by corporate users and the debate on the effect of SNS use for work. The findings will benefit SNS strategists of organizations and policymakers to exploit the benefit potential of public SNS.

Since OCR reflect perceptions of past users about product features and performance, prospective customers of mobile apps often resort to OCR before they decide to download an app. In addition to the textual content of the OCR, potential users of the app often consult the star ratings provided by the reviewers. In this paper, we determine if the star rating of mobile payment apps suitably captures the appropriate customer perception reflected in the textual content of the OCR for the payment apps. We conduct a three-dimensional analysis of 146,914 reviews from two popular mobile payment apps and uncover the sentiment and emotions captured in the review text, and the reactions in the emojis. Our analysis shows that the consolidated sentiment and the happiness emotion obtained from the OCR of mobile payment apps impacts the star ratings more strongly, than other emotions embedded in the text, and reactions in the emojis. The findings also hold good during the Covid-19 pandemic. We propose a novel perception score that captures the nuances in the OCR more effectively and suggest how mobile app providers can use it to arrange the OCR for better compatibility with content. The results of this research will be useful for mobile app providers that depend on OCR for popularizing their apps and will provide them a novel metric based on content, that can leverage OCR better to influence future downloads.

DSN adoption has by far surpassed other information systems implementations and introduced novel opportunities to users in communication, information exchange, and human interaction as an individual, in a group, in communities and organizational networks. DSN offers unique features and opportunities compared to offline social networking. In consequence, the size of social network and the quality of network ties formed on DSN are different from those on offline social networks. The findings of this exploratory research upset the established bridging/bonding social capital factors based on network tie strength which served as the basis for academic studies and introduces factors on the functional view of social capital. It establishes the notion that DSN has introduced novel opportunities compared to previous instances of information systems which necessitated a revisit of established information systems theories and epistemology

It is an instance of information and communication technology that has brought about changes in the way people communicate, interact, and affected human lifestyle and psyche across the world. Some people have become addicted; some see this as beneficial, while others are skeptical about its consequences. This risk-benefit paradox of DSN flummoxes academicians and practitioners alike. This chapter discusses the social and organizational and business risks and benefits of DSN. It goes on to provide a timeline of the evolution of DSN sites, enumeration of typical characteristics of DSN sites, and a systematic comparison of offline and digital social networking. The chapter intends to serve as a cornerstone towards developing a framework for organizational strategy formulation for DSN.

IoT networks are heterogeneous and existing network security tools and controls are inadequate for them. The IoT devices and the data transmitted to and from these devices remain exposed to a multitude of threats. In this paper, we review the security concerns involved in the implementation of IoT and propose a framework for security of IoT devices based on Zero Trust and blockchain. A risk-based segmentation of IoT network increases the homogeneity of IoT device attributes and communication protocols. Zero Trust extends the perimeter of trust beyond the IT/OT network. Blockchain improves the device identification and access control capabilities of the IoT network. We support the conceptual framework with a case study on the implementation of IoT security using Zero Trust and blockchain. We provide a risk-scoring method and a five-point recommendation for management of IoT security. Our proposed IoT security framework will help implementors of IoT to overcome existing security concerns and will benefit academic researchers and practitioners alike.
