Robin's ebay auction [Dec. 9th, 2009|05:27 pm]Robin Finck LJ Community
Hey everyone - if you haven't seen it yet, there's a Tumblr page with a bunch of pictures and video showing some of the items Robin is selling in his ebay auction. It's mostly live shots and video that you probably have seen before but there are a few of mine in there that so far are not online anywhere else. I'll be posting them in the larger versions probably later on today on my site and Flickr. (It's not my page; they are just using some of my pictures along with those of other people.)The Tumblr page is at http://rfmedref.tumblr.comThe second page (click "Older"), which is kind of easy to miss, has some pictures of the film prints he's selling. It's at http://rfmedref.tumblr.com/page/2 . These are artwork from the t-shirts he was selling on his site a few years ago. The film prints were used in the silk-screening process. Ebay auction page is here. Also, check this out: http://robinfinck.com/ YAY!!!

Hang out with Freese & Finck for just $75k [Feb. 23rd, 2009|02:20 pm]Robin Finck LJ Community
[Current Location |JapanLA] [mood amusedamused] [music -none-]Josh Freese's solo album is finally hitting the streets, and according this article and the Orange County register, he will be offering several different editions of his album with extras included. The most exlusive package is the following:$75,000 (limited edition of one)Signed CD/DVD and digital download; T-shirt; go on tour with Freese for a few days; "have Josh write, record and release a five-song EP about you and your life story; take home any of his drum sets (only one, but you can choose which one); take shrooms and cruise Hollywood in Danny [Carey] from Tool's Lamborghini OR play quarters and then hop on the Ouija board for a while."Josh will join your band for a month... play shows, record, party with groupies, etc.; if you don't have a band he'll be your personal assistant for a month (four-day work weeks, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)."Take a limo down to Tijuana and he'll show you how it's done (what that means exactly we can't legally get into here); if you don't live in southern California (but are a U.S. resident), he'll come to you and be your personal assistant/cabana boy for two weeks; take a flying trapeze lesson with Josh and Robin [Finck] from NIN, go back to Robin's place afterwards and his wife will make you raw lasagna." Gotta love it.

Trent writes a Dear John [Feb. 18th, 2009|12:17 pm]Robin Finck LJ Community
[Current Location |work work work] [mood dorkydorky] [music Mp3s:BritneySpears:LaceAndLeather]Recently posted to nin.com2.16.09: A note from Trent and a wave goodbyeTowards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane's Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.Fast forward to the present. Corporate rock STILL sucks. A friend tells me they saw the original Jane's lineup play a tiny show in LA that was unbelievable. I break out my Jane's records and am amazed by how vital they sound. These guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting. We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room.In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there.TrentI'll see you there, guys. I'll be the asian girl with the rocking make-up, wearing pink, drunk as a skunk, dancing and waving goodbye back. I hope we can expect Robin to keep it real for us all.

NIN Fans Gather on the Internet to Produce Fan-Made Live DVD [Jan. 4th, 2009|05:53 pm]Robin Finck LJ Community
[Current Location |work work work] [mood boredbored] [music Mp3s:TalkingHeads]NIN Fans Gather to Produce Fan-Made Live DVDIntead of just sitting around and being disappointed that Nine Inch Nails (NIN) would not be releasing a DVD of live footage from their recent Lights In The Sky tour, NIN fans decided to take matters into their own hands. The news of the crushed possibility, as posted by NIN front man, Trent Reznor on the bands official website struck fans hard. The past three tours in a row were followed with released DVDs, and the thought of their most ambitious touring show production yet not being released in this format was devastating. NIN fans decided to take a proactive approach however, realizing that many of the fans attending concerts had already achieved some great footage. After much discussion and enthusiastic reponses, ThisOneIsOnUs.org was established for fans to submit their own footage or simply suggest a title for this project. As the website states, the live dvd will appear in the form of a free download with the possibility of later being released as "a not-for-profit physical release."( full article under the cutCollapse )

Final Farewell From Finck and Friends [Dec. 17th, 2008|12:05 am]Robin Finck LJ Community
[Current Location |home sweet home] [music -none-]I've sort of made a resolution to post to this community more often. Perhaps this most recent NIN tour has made me a little nostalgic about running the old Finck fansite I used to run, and while I'm certain I do not want to run a new fansite, I have directed the energy into my LJ community! Makes me feel like a journalist just a little, I like that! This post is to bring all of your attention to the following video. As many already know, the recent Nine Inch Nails: Lights in The Sky American 2008 tour has ended, and while they have already informally announced more dates in Spring of 2009 many changes will come. Namely, the departure of both drummer Josh Freese and Keyboardist Alessandro Cortini. Robin Finck is expected to continue touring as a part of NIN at least for now. This video is the final performance of Twilight for this line-up as we knew it, and I really was grateful for YouTube seeing this because you really see something special amongst this particular combination of musicians. You can also really see how Finck really cares about his job and I find it inspiring in exactly the way his fans can always count on him to be.This particular video, thanks to it's owner, is also available in HD!

excerpt [Dec. 15th, 2008|10:33 pm]Robin Finck LJ Community
[Current Location |home sweet home] [mood calmcalm] [music -none-]Snagged from article regarding Axl's recent forum posts on MyGNRForum.com.Q: How did the new lineup respond when initially asked to join GUNS N' ROSES? Did they ever suggest using a different name?Axl: "No one ever talked about or suggested using another name. The guys are really respectful in regard to the old band and I'm not sure if they've said a paragraph apiece in all the years towards or about the old band whether I'm talking about whatever or not. But from being with me for so long they know a lot of it's shit so they get bummed at the endless interviews and nonsense. Personally, I'm so proud of them I wouldn't know how to express it. I can't see me handing something like this as they have with so much class and maturity especially being shit on publicly to such a degree. 'Hey join my band, bring an umbrella!!'As such a fan of Finck it's been exciting that so many people now know who he is when they didn't before, but it's been equally irritating listening to people talk so much shit. This might be the best thing I ever saw Axl say.

something on the record? [Dec. 12th, 2008|09:19 am]Robin Finck LJ Community
[Current Location |home sweet home] [music GunsNRoses:ChineseDemocracy:Better]Woke up this morning to find an article excerpt on metalunderground.com that mentions Robin Finck. The origin of this interview was not provided, however. Below is Finck's mention.Q: Now that you said that, please tell us if Robin's [Finck, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist who is currently on the road with NINE INCH NAILS] out or not... because, otherwise, we'll be reading several "Axl wants Bucket back and Robin/Bumble/Richard out"-type of threads for the entire '09 year and these threads annoy us, the new lineup fans.Axl: "It really is what it is. No decisions have been made by either him, I or us that I'm aware of. When we're touring or working in the studio, or there's social things like a friend's dinner or party, whatever, we would hang. But as people get older, they have their own lives. The STONES aren't going bowling every Tuesday, etc."Robin leads one of the most different lives I know of, starting with the trapeze in his backyard to the TV in his closet."Robin's work on the next is done so there's not lots for him to do here except the elusive promo and he'd rather be on stage. It's more about seeing where things are when GUNS decides it's right for a tour and if we're able to make agreements we both are comfortable and can live with at that time."Also mentioned was a possible music video for, "Better", Finck's writing credit off of Chinese Democracy. On a video for the new GUNS N' ROSES song "Better":Axl: "The 'Better' music video will be out in a week or so. Monumental promotion will start very soon!"I always question the source of information I find on the internet, everyone should. I don't know who made this interview, what article it may be excerpted from. I didn't get it at all really. But in case these answers were real, I thought we all might be interested.
