Cuba was the lead singer for the group The Main Ingredient. He is also the father of Oscar-winning actor, Cuba Gooding, Jr.
The group had its biggest hit, “_Everybody Plays a Fool_,” in 1972 with Cuba singing the lead vocals. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best R&B Song at the 1973 awards. The song hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the fall of 1972, and was certified gold by the RIAA.
