_8:20 am_[fanfictionaxis] How to write out a flirt scene? In one of my stories, I have my main male character who was dumped by his girlfriend over a year and a month ago, trying to figure out how to flirt with this one girl. He's totally unsure of how to go about it without being an idiot. He has no knowledge of how to flirt and his older brother is a known flirt and womanizer, he doesn't want to ask him for advice as he probably would tell the girl he's interested in that he's interested in her.Where would he go to get advice for his friends who would have helped him are dead - would a bar be a good idea for him to go and talk to the bartender or should he just come right out and tell her that he's interested in her as a girlfriend and see where it takes them? And here's the thing, I never flirted before so I am totally new to this. _5:30 pm_[botticellichick] New here Hello all! I am a new member here and I am looking for some fellow romance writers who I can commiserate with and who can help encourage me in my writing endeavors. Here is my situation in a nutshell: I am a working mother who has been writing since I was ten. I am on my third full length novel at the moment and I truly feel as if this one is "the one". I write chick lit with a deeper psychological and emotional spectrum. It's equal parts humorous and angsty. The romance is always the main focal point, but I try to have at least one additional plot that gives my stories excitement, adventure, intrigue, etc. Characterization and details are my two big signatures. I base a lot of my plot on my characters- their personalities, backgrounds, and idiosyncracies. I love using my senses when I write so that my readers can see, smell, hear, taste, and feel everything that is going on. So, here are my big questions: I need a proofreader. I need someone who is trustworthy, who knows grammar pretty well, and who understands my type of writing so that they can get my context. I have one friend that reads my stories, but she is not in the writing business, therefore does not have any professional advice. I need to know if my novel is flowing right and if it really is as publishable as I think it is. If anyone is interested, I would love to discuss maybe a proofreading exchange. Spelling and vocab are my strong points, but I'm not terrible at grammar. Anyway, I am excited to be apart of this community and look forward to speaking with you all. (1 Comment |Comment on this)

_9:24 am_[fanfictionaxis] I need some help with this, please? For countless of centuries after the Great Vampire War, the Vampire world has been in disarray, unfortunately for a human girl named Kelsa, a nearby vampire lord decides to make her his. Her world is thrown upside down as the politics of the vampire world and her own come crashing down around her.The Storyteller's tale is a dark romance adventure that is set in the far future of Earth.Kelsa, in hopes of salvaging her own sense of somewhat of a normal life, she waits on the road that goes near her farm to hire a passing vampire hunter. Hoping the vampire hunter will slay the vampire lord. She has yet to learn that it is never that simple, and the hunter she hired knows more about what's going on than she does. To make the right choices is never easy, and for Kelsa they are even harder. To fight a battle with little hope of winning or to leave the world she knows behind. The only certainty is that nothing will be the same ever again for her or her brother. But when Chester, the town womanizer who wants Kelsa's farm, reveals to the town what happened to her, her life gets even more complicated as the townspeople want her driven from her farm in fear of their own daughters may be next on the menu of the vampire. The townspeople and Kelsa learn about the politics of the Vampires when Koranad, the huntress reassures the townspeople that the vampire lord is only after Kelsa for if he was after more than just her their daughters would have been visited and bitten as well. On the same thread, she gives a warning to the townspeople that if Kelsa is turned to become a vampire, one word from her lips would send the army of the vampire lord out across the land and slay all who chased her from her farm, they leave with a healthy respect for Kelsa and fear of the vampire lord. But in the end, Kelsa's decision is one that she never thought she would decide on, after finding out that her current boyfriend had once again cheated on her, she realizes that Nazan, the vampire lord never cheated on her and was faithful to her the entire time. That's all I got but I'm not sure if it sounds good or not. _12:44 am_[adholen] Encouragement Hello, My name is Ashley. I recently admitted to myself and my friends that I have always had a secret dream. I have always wanted to be a romance novelist. My greatest dream would be a published author, however, due to some family issues I was unable to pursue any work beside earning a paycheck and providing for my family. Now, I can't contain myself and I'm so terrified. I have become obsessed with writing. I can't sleep from excitement and all I want to do is write my ideas down until my brain is empty. I'm terrified I'm going to write the book I've been working on and no one will want it and no one will read it. I was just hoping to join this group to receive some encouragement from the people who have been where I am now. I was also hoping to find some people who would be willing to read my writing when I'm finally ready to share it. I am so glad a friend recommended livejournal and that I found this group so quickly. _11:07 am_[ruisswolf] New Here and Have a Question I'm new here, but have been lurking for awhile now. My name is Stephanie and I usually write paranormal fiction and fantasy, though in the last two months I decided to try my hand at romance writing with a friend of mine, who use to write wholesome Christian Romances and now wants to write hotter romances. My question is this, on average how far into a romance should we go before the characters have their first sexual encounter (sex or making out). Thanks in advance to anyone who responses. (4 Comments |Comment on this)

_4:21 pm_[free_excerpts] Excerpt: Medicine, Horses, & Motherhood I have permission from publisher Sunstone Press to distribute an excerpt from an unusual crossover novel by Texas surgeon Barbara Bergin. "Endings" mixes Bergin's own worlds of medicine, horses, and motherhood with a strong romantic core. It's the story of Leslie Cohen, a 40-year-old doctor who perpetually takes temporary "locum tenens" assignments to stay on the move. While filling in for an orthopedist in Abilene, Texas, she meets a man who might make her quit running."Endings" is laced with loving descriptions of ranch and horse life, packed with fascinating accounts of medical procedures, and loaded with mystery surrounding Leslie's hidden history. The excerpt is entitled "Reining" and is a detailed scene at a horse event that Leslie and her date attend. It shows off the author's background as a nationally ranked horsewoman. You can read the excerpt at the following URL:http://www.authorviews.com/authors/bergin/excerpt.php (Comment on this)
