Violence is widespread in Albania. Understanding the factors that affect it and the complex nature of violence itself requires looking at root social, cultural and economic factors and the normative influences on these factors. This study aimed to explore social and gender norms impacting school-related gender-based violence, and children's potential role in challenging these social norms. This article focuses on findings from research in two schools in Albania, particularly on what children and adult-supporters shared about their understanding of social and gender norms that perpetuate violence, and their recommendations for policy and practice to address them.

Fewer still are studies exploring the interlinkages between these areas of inquiry. The purpose of this paper is to explore, using Canada as a case study, rights-based developments in climate litigation cases and how these could impact the innovative advancement of ESCR (e.g. to food, housing and water). Typically, issues of justiciability and standing emerge, impeding the realization of such rights. Given the grave threats we now face, climate cases and social movements must be brought together to better hold state actors accountable for their rights obligations. We implore the legal community to explore ways to traverse juridical obstacles to realize the interdependencies of human rights and protect the planet from calami...

As children have the right to learn about their rights, children were given the opportunity to explore and express (through words, drawings, and games) what they believed to be their rights and responsibilities, and they also shared their ideas with each other through words and images that were exchanged between the classes. By doing so, the children emphasised the importance of involving children in discussions about their rights and their responsibilities and how they are perceived.

It stressed the importance of giving young girls (and their advocates) a chance to express their opinions on intervention strategies affecting them. The study further argued that their voices are crucial to feed into an international discourse on intervention strategies that addresses international aspects of the commercial sex trade. The research focused on three Commonwealth cities: London (United Kingdom), Vancouver (Canada), and Sydney (Australia). Sexual exploitation of children is a pervasive and complex phenomenon. We are now, arguably, more familiar with the extent, process and effects of it. An increase in media awareness and national and international legal frameworks has provided new opportunities to examine the issue locally and globally. Nonetheless, little research has examined the intervention strategies put in place to tackl...

Child rights-based education can support children to be empowered with critical agency and exposed to connection to the wider world, better equipping them to become young global citizens and act in ways that demonstrate empathy and commitment to diversity, dignity, and equality. To obtain this goal, education systems must be aligned to foster these attributes and empower children to develop and exercise the capabilities that will best serve them in childhood as well as adulthood. This paper considers how we can support the empowerment and capabilities development of children through child rights-focused education using an integrated framework of empowerment, capabilities (Sen, 1999), and social constructivist (Vgotsky, 1978) education. Building on the foundations laid in the development and evoluti...

How problems are defined and addressed depends on their conceptualization and interaction with other parameters within a wider system. This article suggests a set of domains that are needed to help individuals, communities, and societies move from surviving to thriving and suggests that international social problems emerge when these elements are out of equilibrium. The article argues that new, more holistic solutions that harness and enhance innate strengths or assets can address complex international social problems.

Provision of content through learned scholars is insufficient. There is a need to curate innovative, integrative, and transformational education. This chapter explores how collaborative, team-based learning provides relevant, innovative, and generative approaches to working through real-world, urgent, complex, social, environmental and economic issues. Collaborative and team-based learning can support student citizenship, changemaking capacity, collaboration, respect for diversity, and effective practice across a range of professions. Despite the opportunities, team-based exercises pose significant challenges for students. Drawing on an action-oriented research project, this chapter discusses ways to improve processes to support students' team-related skills to further their success and student citizenship.

However, learning in teams is not always thoroughly planned or effectively delivered. In trying to better understand what processes support or hinder effective and innovative learning in teams, a group of researchers and practitioners explored what works and what needs to be improved in the context of one Canadian university. This article highlights the key findings from this study and offers readers strategies to support effective, innovative, and collaborative learning in teams.
