The WTO techniques agreements limit the use of certain trade measures as quantitative restrictions and subsidies. Such development has also implication for a country's strategy in supporting its domestic industry in including SMEs. WTO agreements cover not only the traditional goods sector but also new sectors like services and intellectual property rights. There is a tendency for considering these newly included sectors as constraints to trade prospects of a poor country like Bangladesh. There are certain other areas where improvements provide genuine incentives to SMEs and contribute to their enhanced competitiveness. Improved infrastructure, better law and order situation, and efficient ports and transportation are likely to impact favorably upon the SMEs sector and such things may be no less important than mere policy supported incentives. However, these provisions have now become real...

We compare the firms’ motivations for FDI, sectoral distribution of FDI and ownership advantages, corporate governance and ownership, and linkage with local Chinese firms. Our study has four major findings. First, on motivations for investment, the Korean FDI firms in China aimed to use China as an export-processing base, whereas the US FDI firms tend to target local Chinese markets. Hong Kong FDI firms tend to be somewhere between the Korean and the American firms, targeting both export and local markets. Second, on the sectoral distribution of FDI and related ownership advantages, the Korean FDI firms focus on labor-intensive sectors over which they have ownership advantages, exploiting cheap labor and raw materials, while ownership advantages of the US and Hong Kong firms tend to lie in capitalintensive sectors. Third, on the governance forms of the FDI firms, the Korean FDI firms show a strong preference for wholly foreign-owned FDI, whereas Hong Kong and American FDI firms show less preference for this type of arrangement. Hong Kong firms show some preference for the contractual joint ventures that enable more flexible arrangements between partner firms. Fourth, on linkage with local firms, Korean FDI firms rely very little on backward linkage with local firms, whereas US and Hong Kong firms show a strong tendency for backward linkage with local firms.

It acts as a key sector in the economy and it encompasses monetary policy, monetary management and financial market management etc. Ensuring effective monetary management, developing efficient and reliable financial market are the prerequisites for achieving the goals of macro-economic stability. The accumulated capital is a visualized tool for economic development through mobilization of un-accumulated resources. The capital market is the major source of finance. But the existing status of the capital market in Bangladesh is hardly in a position to play as the mobilizer of resources for economic development. Therefore, the country’s capital market needs structural change as well as proper regulation, which are likely to improve the confidence of investors and boost the functions of capital market. This paper assesses the operational status of the capital market of Bangladesh based on secondary information during 2000-2005 along with identifying the major influencing factors and problems. By using the factor analysis it has been shown that Turn over of capital market largely depends on five indicators i.e. Market Capitalization, GDP, Issued Capital, Price Index and Amount of Securities during the study period. The share of investment in the capital market to GDP of Bangladesh is very poor as compared to the share of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to some controllable and uncontrollable factors like high risk and uncertainty, political unrest, poor saving due to poverty, irregular declaration of dividend, industrial sickness, trade-union pressure and natural disaster etc. The regulatory bodies with the assistance of Bangladesh Govt. should take special policies in order to improve the capital market, which would contribute tremendously for improving the investment status, and hence develop the economy of Bangladesh.
