Assoc. Professor Emerita as of 2024 in visual communication and arts-based research at Roskilde University : www.ruc.dk/\~lisbethf
My main research areas are:
- Arts-based research with focus on auto-ethnographic, narrative and visual research methods about making meaning of experiences such as migration, war, dementia.
- Co-creation and facilitation of arts activities with vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and chronic illness with an aim to promote their well-being and enhance empathy.
- Research communication via graphic novels, documentary film, academic video, video by artists about art-making, animation film and video production and collaboration online.
- Facilitation of collaboration and dialogue in groups using arts-inspired methods such as creative writing and illustration, journal-making, embodied and performative methods with dance and music, LEGO Serious Play models.
- Empowerment and co-design of new media and digital production practices using critical perspectives on media education and voice.
My background is in visual communication, art, illustration, design, art education and expressive art therapies.
Before becoming an academic researcher, I worked as a concept developer at LEGO, art teacher with refugees, game illustrator, multimedia designer, and clinical art therapist.

What happens while creating films, in terms of reflecting and being critical about their films – how do the students verbalize or perhaps embody their process of reflection? The students’ learning is studied by applying a dialogic model of learning called Animated Symbols.

We base our work on the concepts of affordances, or the material and social properties of any technology in relation to affording actions to humans, of the 3D web (or 3D internet) or virtual worlds (hereafter noted with the term VWs), social networks, and the diffusion or spread of innovation. We conducted seven case studies through qualitative interviews ...

Like other authors in this book, we believe that basic educational research benefits by being framed as a problem oriented research process, where design experiments and theoretical investigations go hand in hand. How this can be achieved - and the challenges it creates - is expressed in an ‘osmotic model’, showing the give and take of focusing simultaneously on product designs and theoretical
insights. The authors offer some guiding principles by which researchers can navigate in such a methodological setting. The principles are based on experiences from three research and development projects at Learning Lab Denmark and illustrate the multitude of challenges to be faced, when balancing the processes of product development and the generation theoretical insights.
