The purpose of the study is to identify the challenges and prospects of distance education for ad... more The purpose of the study is to identify the challenges and prospects of distance education for adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main research method was the survey. Teenagers, parents and teachers were interviewed (330 people). One of the leaders of the study was a representative of the Technical Institute of NEFU in Neryungri. The results of the study made it possible to identify and analyze the main inconveniences of distance learning that young people suffered from. The following difficulties were identified: different teaching approaches (48.2%), lack of technical devices (7.6%), an increase in the number of homework assignments (86%). Accordingly, traditional delivery of instruction is being shifted towards blended learning that is being gradually replaced with distance learning, i.e. higher education is moving forward with mobile learning (m-learning) technologies. The introduction of mobile learning became the most topical event in 2020 in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to which many countries had to completely move to distance learning in higher education. The survey was conducted at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Engineering Academy of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (EA PFUR). The total research sample included 200 participants and consisted of 50 potential employers, 50 Russian and Arab PFUR linguistics students, 50 faculty members, namely, teachers of PFUR, the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, as well as 50 PFUR administrative staff members. According to the type of relations between the participants, there are such forms of communication as interpersonal, public, mass communication; by means of communication it may be written, oral and paralinguistic (gesture, facial expressions), real sign communication like visual arts. Nowadays there is also an electronic form of communication, used not only in the virtual space, but also in everyday life. Language mediated by electronic discourses like chats, SMS texts, e-mails significantly differs from the standard form of the language and is known as the texting language. In the course of such communication, oral speech is used, transferred to a written format without a corresponding edition, with preservation of mimicry and intonation at the expense of written means. The paradigm of education systems is being restructured in many countries towards a new approach of personalized learning that is adapted to students' needs, allows them to choose individual educational trajectories, and respects unique skills and qualities. The study aimed to determine the impact of personalization on the academic performance of engineering students in physics. The experiment on personalized student support was conducted during the academic year 2018-2019 at I.T. Trubilin Kuban State Agrarian University. The sample covered 78 students.
