Research paper thumbnail of EAGBRP: A Gateway Based Routing Protocol for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks

Journal of Scientific Research, May 1, 2021

In most of the cluster-based routing protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), cluster heads... more In most of the cluster-based routing protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), cluster heads (CHs) are selected from the normal sensors which may expire rapidly due to fast energy diminution for such an additional workload. As a consequence, the network lifetime of such cluster-based routing protocol reduces drastically. To resolve these constraints, in this study, we proposed a gateway-based routing protocol-namely Energy-Aware Gateway Based Routing Protocol (EAGBRP) for WSNs. In our proposed protocol, the deployed sensor nodes of a WSN were divided into five logical regions based on their location in the sensing field. The base station (BS) was installed out of the sensing area, and two gateway nodes were inaugurated at two predefined regions of the sensing area. The CH in each region is independent of the other regions and selected based on a weighted election probability. We implemented our proposed routing protocol through simulations. To evaluate the performance of our EAGBRP, we simulated SEP, M-GEAR, and MGBEHA (4GW) protocols. The network lifetime, throughput, and residual energy parameters are utilized for performance analysis. It is revealed from the performance analysis results that WSNs with EAGBRP achieve maximum network lifetime and throughput over other considered protocols with minimum energy consumption.

By observing humans behaviors and experiences, it can be feasible to read their level of interests, preferences in any social environments. However, making manual large scale observation of human behaviors using paper-and-pencil based method is a very difficult and complicated task. In this study, an attractive solution to this complicated task is discussed. Here, we used our network enabled multiple LIDARs pole based human tracking system in supporting to our solution. This system can robustly track humans in any social environments. Our solution provides an easy way to observe humans behaviors from human tracking data to read their interests, preferences inside any social spaces. Finally, we tested our solution using a large set of human tracking data from an art gallery of a real museum to validate its effectiveness.

As a result, some unlucky sensor nodes (SNs) become dead quickly; thereby, network lifetime reduces drastically. To overcome this problem, in this paper, a new cluster-based routing protocol-Energy-Aware Threshold Sensitive Stable Election Protocol (EATSEP) is presented for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In the EATSEP protocol, the CH selection is an optimum process where the initial and residual energy of each SNs are considered within a heterogeneous SNs energy environment. Additionally, our proposed EATSEP protocol has managed to reduce long-distance transmission by routing data among CHs to the base station. In our present study, we have simulated the EATSEP protocol through MATLAB to compare its performance with other popular protocols under some well-known performance metrics. The experimental results indicate that the network stability of the EATSEP protocol improves by 80.81, 66.41, and 27.06 %, respectively, compared to the low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH), Stable Election Protocol (SEP), and Threshold Sensitive SEP under a particular setting. In terms of energy consumption and network throughput, the EATSEP is also superior to other protocols.

To do that, we utilized multiple USB video camera sensors to support the guide robot in detecting and tracking people's visual focus of attention (VFOA) toward paintings. In this study, we consider each person's head orientation and profile information and compute importance values to identify a target-person that may be interested in a particular painting. After identifying the target-person, the guide robot moves autonomously through an appropriate motion path from the so called public-distance to his/her social-distance to explain details about the painting to which s/he is interested. Furthermore, we demonstrate the viability of our guide robot system by experimenting with the Robovie-R3 as a museum guide robot. Finally, we tested the system to validate its effectiveness.

The simulated system deploys three channel coding techniques(1/2-rated Convolutional, CRC and BCH). In the present simulated system, text message transmission has been secured with concatenated implementation of Electronic Codebook (ECB) and Cipher Feedback(CFB) cryptographic algorithm. It is remarked from simulation results that the MIMO OFDM system outperforms with pre-ZF channel equalization,QAM digital modulation and BCH channel coding schemes under fading channels(AWGN and Raleigh). In Pre-MMSE/pre-ZF channel equalization scheme, the system shows comparatively worst performance in convolutional channel coding scheme with QAM/QPSK digital modulation. With increase in noise power as compared to signal power, the system is found to have shown performance deterioration.

The proposed method recognizes facial expressions for static images and real-time applications. Firstly, face and facial parts are detected from the input image. Preprocessing is performed over the detected parts using histogram equalization and image sharpening technique to reduce the illumination effect. Then HOG is used to extract the distinctive image features from facial regions and concatenated into a single feature vector. Finally, the SVM is used for expression classification with a polynomial kernel function. The proposed system is evaluated on renowned JAFFE and Cohn-Kanade facial expression database for seven basic facial expressions. It reveals that the proposed FER system yields an accuracy up to 97.62% and 98.61% for JAFFE and Cohn-Kanade databases, respectively.

Finally, we tested our solution using a large set of human tracking data from an art gallery of a real museum to validate its effectiv...

We use multiple LIDARs as a primary sensing technology in supporting our proposed system. We also describe how valuable information related to visitor behaviors can be autonomously collected and analyzed using our system. Additionally, we present a solution to visualize the visitors' movement patterns and preferences with respect to the exhibits. Finally, we tested our system in an art gallery of a real museum to validate its effectiveness.
