Purple Sand Tile Fish [27 Sep 2008|09:26pm]
Hi there, I'm new to the group, but wanted here today. Purple sand tile fish are some of the most beautiful fish; and after having one along with a skunk tile in the tank for about two months, the purple one jumped out of the tank and died. While tile fish have a reputation for being startled easily and are jumpers, the two tile fish seemed very comfortable in the tank and would actually swim around my hand when I was working in the tank. They were friendly fish I thought. Both tile fish are fully grown, about five to six inches in length.Has anyone in the community have any experiences with the tile fish. It's pretty depressing to lose a fish you actually grown ao attached to :( It really was one of the most beautiful fish I've seen.

[ **mood** | distressed ] Hello there!I'm new to the saltwater aquarium community and I'm looking for help. My tank has been going for about 3 months now, and things had been going relatively smooth. None of my fish had died and I've been taking good care of my water quality and water changes. I have a nice wet/ dry filter with carbon, but for some reason my fish have started dying. I've medicated the water as directed with pimafix and melafix. I've lost 2 fish so far and a 3rd is sick. It was fine earlier today but tonight it had white ich spots and was stuck to the filter. I took it off the filter and put it in an isolation net to make sure it won't get stuck again. I'm really upset and frustrated right now, because I feel like I've been taking good care of everything but something isn't right. Is there anything I can do to save my fish besides what I've already done? I love my fish and I can't afford for $20+ fish to keep dying.please any help is appreciated!!*edit*I added an air stone/ air pump near the isolation net and it seems to have helped some, but I still don't think that its going to make everything better. Help is still greatly appreciated!

Maybe you guys can help me.I got a second hand aquarium, it was used as a saltwater tank. The glass rather cloudy looking, I was wondering what type of cleaner to use. It has a plastic rim, and I will be re-caulking it. It's going to be used as a snake tank, and I know to rinse it 1000 times before it's 'done'. I already used Fantastic cleaner on it (it's the strongest stuff I have at the moment) and it didn't work too well. So now I must go ut and buy something else. Suggestions?

Hey,I have a 70gl reef tank at my school I take care of during the school year. Over the summer they put someone else in charge who left early.I just got back to school and OMG there is little to no visibility.I have no idea how long its been like this. Our brittle star and shrimp died. We still have our yellow tang, hermit crab, damsel fish (3), and clownfish. They changed over my original protein skimming, and wet/dry filtering system. They are now using a small whisper filter, and a UV sterilization unit (should they be using that unit???? )The tank has a lot of little barnacle looking things on the tank walls. I got it off by scrubbing it and they just fell down like coins. What were they???

Sea anemone [13 Mar 2006|08:36am]
[ **mood** | refreshed ] Hello everyone. My boyfriend and I recently bought a saltwater tank and yesterday we bought a clown fish and anemone for it. However our anemone took a half hour to settle yesterday, and even then it kept moving around. It stuck to a corner of the tank last night after we turned the lights off (and our new clown seemed to be having plenty of fun in it - that was one of the cutest things I've ever seen.) But this morning the anemone was floating around again. Is this normal? Are there any tricks to getting it to stay in one place? This post may be cross-posted if I find any other relevant communities.

question #2 - algae [04 Mar 2006|06:29am]
[ mood | awake ] ok, here's another question for you. How to get rid of green and red algae in saltwater tanks? Would the treatment hurt invertebrates (snails)? Any ideas? :)

Hi.My boyfriend and I have decided to start a saltwater tank.Im very excited, however have no idea where to begin. Maybe one of you fine people could point me in the direction of a website with buckets of information for beginners? We are going up to the petstore tomorrow to see what we can figure out, maybe purchase a book or two, but anything I can read up on in the meantime would be excellent. Any advice is welcome as well.Thanks.

Does anyone have a good diagram of an anaerobic substrate for a saltwater aquarium... as far as the layer and how to create it or set it up. I can't find one online.
