Hotter Than July Bellydance Extravaganza, Saturday July 9th at 1pm, Berkeley, CA
The Hotter than July Bellydance Extravaganza is a celebration of the Girls Raks Bellydance and Body Image Summer Program. The event will be held July 9, 2011 at 1:00pm at the La Peña Cultural Center at 3105 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley. Now in its second year and led by Raks Africa, Girls Raks is a fun and engaging summer program for girls ages 13-19. The goal of the program is to provide survival tools for girls of all sizes who may struggle with body image and self-esteem issues. The two-week program gives teenage girls an opportunity to have a body-positive experience, free of judgment and competition.
A 10to10 to 10to20 donation at the door is suggested. The Extravaganza features Bay Area bellydance treasures Nanna Candelaria, Ahava, Monica Berini, Khalilah, Queenie TT, Asata Iman, Zadiyah, Raks al Khalil, Shabnam’s Ooh La La Dancers, Monica McCartney and a special performance from summer program participants, Girls Raks and event producers, Raks Africa.

So I was graciously asked to participate in a DVD titled Bellydance Unbound. 'Bellydance Unbound' is a performance video featuring the best in dark tribal fusion bellydance. For the first time, the dancers will be removing themselves from the stage or out of the studio and performing original pieces in a variety of locations of the individual dancerʼs choosing. The video will feature twelve dancers in eleven separate performances.
and i am one of only two larger ladies being featured in the dvd. This week we have a performance fundraiser coming up and i'd love to have your support! We will have a gorgeous array of dancers, music by Unwoman and a raffle for dance classes and adornment (including hats made by me!)

They tried to make me go to Fat Camp and I said NO NO NO
Yes I am fat but I don’t mind that (oh NO NO NO)
I need every ounce
I love my swagger and my bounce
They tried to make me go to Fat Camp I won’t go go go
Id rather be at home with me
I don’t like being hungry
Cuz these diets, diets make me crazy
Thinking about food like it’s the enemy
I gotta stand up for my size
So I shout out FATTY PRIDE
They tried to make me go to Fat Camp and I said NO NO NO
Yes I am fat but I don’t mind that (oh NO NO NO)
I need every ounce
I love my swagger and my bounce
They tried to make me go to Fat Camp I won’t go go go
The man said Why you think you’re here?
I said I’ve got no idea
They’re fighting, fighting a War on Obesity
And doctors say my body is something to fear
Say I just think you’re depressed
From hate speech, counting calories, and the rest
They tried to make me go to Fat Camp and I said NO NO NO
Yes I am fat but I don’t mind that (oh NO NO NO)
I don’t ever wanna diet again
I just ooh wanna see my body as a friend
I’m not gonna starve off 10 pounds
Just to regain them when I eat again
I’ve gotta stand up for my size
So I shout out FATTY PRIDE
They tried to make me go to Fat Camp and I said NO NO NO
Yes I am fat but I don’t mind that (oh NO NO NO)
I need every ounce
I love my swagger and my bounce
They tried to make me go to Fat Camp I won’t go go go

My husband suggested I try Judo lessons and I think it's fab! But is there such thing as a fat friendly Judo or other martial arts class?
Obv. not looking to lose weight, just learn some new skills and have fun. Suggestions? (I actually live in Santa Clara, but own a cafe near SFO so I'm up here a lot www.CarrotsCoffeeAndTea.com)
Thanks! =0)

I'm moving to a new apartment and I'm gonna get rid of some clothing! I don't have time to take pictures right this second, but it's mostly going to be:
-shirts/blouses in XXL-3X
-jeans/pants in 20-24
-a torrid jacket in a 4x (fits me at a 44DDD, 22/24)
-some random shoes in size 11
I was going to sell this stuff on Fatshionista, but I'm too lazy and I'd rather gift clothes to people who want/need them. I currently live in SOMA near SFMOMA, and if you're interested we can meet somewhere or I can mail clothes to you (if you want to pay shipping on Paypal). Yay!

I have an extra ticket to the Manchester Orchestra this coming Thursday 3/11 at the Great American Music Hall. Anyone interested? :)

any queer fat femmes in the house? i know y'all exist in the bay area, but i can't find you!
edited to add: okay, now that i know there's a femme contingent here, what i really want to know is if you guys are involved in any femme networking/socializing/rabblerousing groups. i'm sorely lacking in queer girl camaraderie these days, so it would be super neat to get involved in, say, a recurring femme luncheon or stitch-n-bitch circle or...well, you get the idea.
i'm also down to initiate a new gathering - scrabble and sangria in dolores park, anyone?

Hello!
My employer just changed to Aetna and I am looking for a fat-friendly PCP in SF. I figure that I'll go to the doctor more often if I know they'll do their job without judging me. I live in SOMA, but I am willing to travel anywhere in the city. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :)

Hiyas!
I'm looking for some fatty-friendly PVC (or really any non-leather) boots of the gothy/naughty-looking variety. (Mostly I'd just like to go someplace with a high likelihood of finding a few options to coo over in my size.)
Is there anywhere that sells stuff like that? In SF or East Bay?

Hello!
I was curious if anyone is interested in going thrifting? I have a minor addiction and would love to check out more places in the Bay Area - but it is definitely more fun with someone else.
I realize with the holidays quickly approaching that this might be hard to organize before the new year, but maybe after? My schedule is pretty flexible.
