Modern theatre in India comprises mainly of English, Hindi, Marathi and Hinglish (comprising of a... more Modern theatre in India comprises mainly of English, Hindi, Marathi and Hinglish (comprising of a mix of Hindi and English dialogues) plays. English theatre was brought to India during the British rule and was watched mostly by art connoisseurs of the rich, upper class. This, however, changed after independence, as, many Indians entered the fray and theatre slowly became open for common people too. The post-independence Indian English drama is notable for a wide range of subjects treated, issues presented and also it takes into its compass some globally appealing issues. It displays a remarkable growth and maturity. Mahesh Dattani is a dynamic dramatist, a professional Baratnatyam dancer, a drama teacher, a stage director, and an actor. A person, who has touched almost every aspect of the theatre and has received the first ‘SahityaAkadami Award’ (1998) for writing in English, he is rightly called the successor of Girish Karnad for his innovations in dialogue writing, pragmatic stage...

Around 2000 villagers of Buldana district, Maharashtra, today use this language. From the previous generation, there are only four to five aged persons who can remember the old words, idioms, and phrases of the language exactly. They are the only surviving resource available to us today. The language, which once was very rich and known for its uniqueness, Ow is striving for its existence. The coming generations are getting away from their roots and are under various influences which are marring the survival of the language. Globalization, liberalization, and privatization led this language rapidly towards endangered status. UNESCO code for its endangered status is ISO-639-3. The paper intends to focus on the life and culture of the Nihals in short. It highlights various reasons and challenges before the language and tries to put forward some solutions to them. The language, which once was very rich and known for its uniqueness, Ow is
striving for its existence. The coming generations are getting away from their
roots and are under various influences which are marring the survival of the
language. Globalization, liberalization, and privatization led this language
rapidly towards endangered status. UNESCO code for its endangered status is
ISO-639-3.
The paper intends to focus on the life and culture of the Nihals in short.
It highlights various reasons and challenges before the language and tries to
put forward some solutions to them.

A twenty nine year old, forbidden to cross borders, takes six years to write a forty six pages " ... more A twenty nine year old, forbidden to cross borders, takes six years to write a forty six pages " script which has shaken and broken many a traditional patterns of writing a drama. Nassim Solemanpour " s " White Rabbit Red Rabbit " , is unique and exceptional as its every performance is a new world premiere. A young playwright from Iran, whose need to be expressed, to be listened to, and the urge to voice his opinions resulted in this short, terse and power packed script. This shocks the audiences and awakens many form their reverie about their socio, psychological and political awareness. The dramatist in the beginning itself enlists fourteen points " rubrics for the performer which are part of the script as well. This play first appeared in 2010 and was performed in 2011. Since then it has never repeated its script or actors. The playwright asks the performers even not to " google " about the play. Hence there is no point of rehearsals and unpredictably enough the audience is asked to keep their mobile phones on and is given the writer " s e-mail address and are encouraged to send him live photographs of the ongoing performance. The act and scene division is absent, and it seems to be one complete organic performance. This definitely is a paradigm shift in the genre and an experiment with inclusion of technology with live inputs. The paper intends to focus the uniqueness of the play, its process and the responses of some of those who have performed in it.

'Wife' the word has many connotative shades especially in Indian context. It strikingly reminds o... more 'Wife' the word has many connotative shades especially in Indian context. It strikingly reminds of duties and responsibilities and hardly speaks of the rights as an equal human being. Though in the last century there have been serious reforms but what was imbibed from ages and centuries, will find it difficult to completely evaporate from the collective conscious of the people. It is obvious for women to express their experiences, they have gone through. The paper aims to study the vent, anguish and annoyance of being a 'wife' in three essays in three different languages by Judy Brady(English), Chhaya Datar(Marathi) and Anupama Shrivastava(Hindi) in their works, ' Why I want a Wife', 'Purush mhanje Surya ani Striya Suryaful?' and 'Biwi ka Sabstitute' respectively. In his visit to India some years back Professor U. R. Ananthmurthy asked that, why Indian vernacular literary texts receive rare attention of critics that is given to major European texts. Taking into consideration the need for extended textual readings as well as cross cultural, cross regional analysis of the literary texts. He called for textual comparisons that highlight similarities and differences in the way common themes and similar social situations are treated. He argued that several strands of cultural and social influence run throughout Indian literary texts, strands that are impossible to see clearly if our focus remains so confined to the works of any one linguistic or regional tradition. 'Alternative Modernity' strongly suggests that fine grained historical, cultural, and philosophical analyses will show how distinctly modern values such as individuality and radical egalitarianisms were articulated on other contexts, than capitalist.
