The drug Linga mathirai is made as per Siddha literature. Recent scientific trends insisting that administration of metals in human usage should undergo the toxicity studies. The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate acute and sub acute toxicity of the Linga mathirai on wistar rats following OECD guidelines. In acute oral toxicity study, a single dose of Linga mathirai was administered and observed for 14 days, no abnormal signs upto the dose level of 2000mg/kg body weight. Sub-acute toxicity studies were carried in two different groups of Linga mathirai was administrated orally to rats once daily for 28 days in various doses ranging from 100 and 200 mg/kg for rat respectively. The study concludes there were no change in behaviour movements and no characteristic clinical sign of toxicity or mortality observed.

The medicinal plants and the herbal preparations are preferred; nowadays, due to minimal side effects and the presence of abundant antioxidants and micronutrients which possesses a better therapeutic efficiency. According to the World Health organization, the herbal medicines have been defined as those containing plant parts or plant materials in raw state or processed form containing active principles. The Siddha system of medicine encompasses around 600 medicinal plants in materia medica. Methods: Physicochemical analysis such as pH, ash values, and loss on drying is done and biochemical analysis of acid and basic radicals. Instrumental analysis of Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) for analyze the functional groups in the test drug, scanning electron microscope (SEM) for determine the particle size of the drug, and inductively coupled plasma-optic emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) for heavy metal analysis.Result: For standar...

Asthma cannot be cured but it could be controlled. Combined medications possess both reliever and controller properties are very good for asthmatic treatment. Siddha herbo mineral preparations are bio-safe and have its own fast acting properties to control broncho constriction and relieves from asthmatic symptoms early. And they probably don't cause any adverse drug reactions. Vasanthakusumakara Mathirai (VKM) was indicated for respiratory illness includes sneezing, fever and bronchial asthma. To evaluate the Siddha herbo mineral drug VKM by exposing guinea pig in histamine aerosol for bronchodilator activity. Four group each group contain six animal. All the doses were given orally once a day for 5 days. Prior to drug treatment each animal was placed in the histamine chamber and exposed to 0.2 % histamine aerosol. The pre convulsive time (PCT) was determined from the time of exposure to onset of convulsions. These animals were again subjected to histamine aerosol after 1hour of drug administration and PCT was determined, then results were tabulated. Hence the test drug has significant effect on bronchodilator and proves to be the best drug for treating asthma.

This drug is traditionally used for bronchial asthma, tuberculosis. The modern scientific instruments like Fourier Transform Infra-Red, Scanning Electron Microscope, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optic Emission Spectrometry were used to evaluate functional groups, particle size and heavy metal analysis respectively. FT-IR showed Amide, Alcohol, Alkene, Alkyne, Ether, Alkyl and Nitro group. These functional groups are responsible to treat bacterial infection and kills tubercle bacilli in sputum. In SEM the particle size ranges from 89.7nm to 138nm. So the drug has micro and nano particle which increases the therapeutic effect. While analysing ICP-OES, showed that Mercury was within permissible limit and other metals like Lead, Arsenic cadmium were below detectable limit. Thus, VKM has its standard fingerprint and evaluate the formula scientifically.

Result: For standardization, organoleptic characters were done in that pH is 7.6, ash value is 1.379%, water-soluble ash is 0.294%, acid-insoluble ash is 0.871%, loss on drying in 105 is 0.483%, and disintegration time is 23 min. The functional group were analyzed by FT-IR. Then, in SEM, it has nano and microparticles. Finally, in ICP-OES, heavy metals are in permissible limits. Conclusion: This standardization helps this drug to develop in future and also to evaluate these drug scientifically by determine the toxicity of the drug and pharmacological effect.

It will produce spontaneous worse symptoms. The conventional medicines are only for symptomatic relief and also have significant adverse effect. The prognosis of the disease is also worst. Worldwide interest is on the natural medicinal compounds for safe and effective treatment. Many medicinal plants have NSAID effect to relieve the causes of Osteoarthritis. Some of them are scientifically validated. Here in this review we have discussed some of the potent anti-arthritic effect which plays a way for further research on joint disease.

It is highly infectious and opportunistic disease. The synthetic drugs for anti-tuberculosis effect have been prescribed for symptomatic control of disease but produce much adverse effect. Naturally obtaining medicinal plants are incomparable resources of Siddha. From thousands of years, medicinal plants provide a great hope to curing diseases. This review spotlights the effort on anti-tubercular plants, which are various source of literature. This paper provides the plant description, chemical constituents, evidence based pharmacological activity. This will motivate and provide a way for further researches on medicinal plants, possess potent anti-tuberculosis activity.
