Existing approaches tend to be fragmented; thus, the purpose of this paper is to integrate balanced performance measures, a dynamics model, and the problem-solving method into a new model. Design/methodology/approach An integrated framework is developed by reviewing literature and synthesising attributes of performance measurement systems, system dynamics and problem-solving methods. The framework is then applied to a multiple-role company’s sea transportation system. The study uses statistical methods to identify performance indicators, management interviews with document study to develop a dynamics model, and simulation methods to formulate an improvement plan. Findings The performance measurement design stage allowed for the identification of balanced, aligned performance indicators, while the system dynamics model illu...

Hospital quality system is the main thing to consider in order provid ing satisfaction to the customers, especially in terms of logistics, not only med icine but also foods which always have a d irect contact with the patients. Inventory management system in supply chain management is one factor to control the quality of the food. This research aim is to select the appropriate method in demand forecasting to determine the nu mber of products purchased for use and stored in the warehouse. The results showed the nutrition installation depart ment should use simp le exponential smoothing (SES) method for Anlene, Ensure FOS, Hepatosol and Peptamen product, while the product Pediasure and Neosure should use the moving average method, because the error was less significant and the method was really fit, according to product demand co mpared to the other forecasting methods. This research is not only using time series for demand fo recasting, but also tries to apply the calculation of average inventory value. It uses for inventory management system to improve the warehouse system of nutrition installat ion department effect ively and efficiently. The calculat ion is using periodic review method, yielding an average inventory value is much smaller than the current situation.

Besides medicines, most of hospital inventories are medical devices and consumable goods such as syringe, bandage, and etc. This study is aiming to observe inventory management and d istribution of medical consumables in public hospital and provide solutions for problems that often happened. The methodology of this paper is a case study at a public hospital in Indonesia as developing country. This study is preliminary research, which is future research is to make the optimal scenario of medical consumables inventory and distribution which is can reduce the cost significantly. The result of this paper is there are four most important factor that must be concerned in managing hospital inventory and distribution of medical consumables, efficient use of resources, collaboration with other departments to give customer service imp rovement.

Research paper thumbnail of Monte Carlo Simulation for Analyzing Operating Theatre Utilization Simulasi Monte Carlo Dalam Menganalisis Utilisasi Kamar Operasi

Operating theatre performance is measured by utilization rate, however the way utilization measured in practice is different with the general terminology. We conduct research in one referral hospital. It was declared that although the utilization of operating theatre is not high, many patients wait for the services. Therefore, the objectives of this research are to validate the low utilization rate and to identify causes of unutilized capacity of operating theatre. Method: This research applied statistical description method to analyze the utilization with general terminology, and the Monte Carlo simulation is run to identify what factors that cause unutilized capacity. Three scenarios are used in the simulation. First scenario is simulation with no cancellation occurs, the second is simulation with cancellation, and the third scenario is simulation for determining unutilized capacity due to waiting and idle time in operating theatre. Results: This study has successfully revealed factors causing unutilized capacity of operating theatre i.e. number of cancellation, waiting for facilities, and idle capacity. Our study shows that 1% of cancellation rate will reduce utilization about 1%. This study also indicates that unutilized capacity due to waiting for facilities and idle capacity in these operating theatres is fairly high. Conclusion: It had confirmed that operating theatres in the hospital are in low utilization and need for improvement. Determining utilization rate with Monte Carlo simulation provides more information to hospital manager for decision making process.

By hidebound thinking, the medical profession emphasized that a physician's time is more valuable than a patient's time. Consequently, the appointment system was designed to min imize physicians' idle time overlooking patients' waiting t ime. Th is is no longer valid in today's consumer oriented society. Long wait ing times for t reat ment in the outpatient department followed by short consultations has long been a complaint. Nowadays, customers use waiting time as a decisive factor in choosing a service provider. Therefo re, idle time of both parties must be considered in designing an appointment system although these two objectives are contradicted to each other. This research aims to provide a study of the major causes of patients length of time for medical t reat ment in a outpatient clinic at one of Indonesian public hospital and also provide recommendation on the best strategy to improve the appointment system so that can maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of resource and capacity. The hospital queue model use single-channel mu ltiphase systems. Queuing theory be the first tool to look at patient wait ing times on each server independently. The results show that the hospital should change the appointment system for physicians. Applying 'doctor on call' system may appear to reduce doctor's idle time but lead to high patients' wait ing times. In some cases, the appointment system make doctor to be back and forth to the hospital, so it was not directly affect the productivity of a doctor. Not only construct the appointment system, they should take attention of patient flow and set scheduling of the capacity to increase the effective and efficiency outpatient department performance.

While the healthcare cost is keep on growing, effect ive healthcare supply chain should be achieved to reduce some unnecessary costs. To address this issue, this study aims to examine inventory management practice in one of Indonesian public hospital and focus on the role o f inventory to drive hospital supply chain performance. Th ree major issues regarding inventory management practice has been identified such as overstock, unjustified forecasting technique and lack of IT support. Proposed (s,Q) policy using continuous review can reduce by 50% total inventory value on hand of oncology medication. Among several forecasting technique that's presented, Holt's model appears to be the best adapted for oncology medication. Future study is needed to simu late the outlook condition using proposed policy. By imp lement ing a new inventory policy that cope all the constraints and problems will help hospital to manage its pharmacy inventory in effective and efficient way.

This is done since designing performance management system, espescially in defining key indicators is essential in achieving improvement process and better service. One approach to assist institution -notwithstanding with some pitfalls in it- is benchmarking. Moreover given the fact that industry best practice may never be found as it also relate with organizational culture, the criteria to adopt benchmarking strategy become crucial. The study conducts through a series of descriptive study to top nine Indonesia’s business schools. The research stages start with literature surveys of several published article in international journal related with benchmarking criteria and adoption that have been done by previous researchers. Followed by descriptive study through observation, interviews, document reviews, and filling out the questi...

There are many critical aspects and gaps notified for new model to improve performance and even recognized that self evaluation performance management is not well developed in school toward a competitive education market. The exploratory study and comparative study methodology were used to develop a conceptual model based upon literature review. An exploratory study approach was used to investigate the way in which PMS actually evolve within business school institution, while comparative study was done to determine relationship among PMS based on literature review and secondary data. Based on information gathered about several standards applied for business school, hopefully, there will be a valuable opportunity to create new PMS model that could cover every weaknesses and strengths that each standard had, and the new model will manage business school performance more comprehensively as well.

Without an international quality standard, Indonesian higher education institutions will find it hard to compete against international higher education institutions. European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) is an international accreditation that has an objective to increase the quality of management education worldwide. There are 10 standards and criteria that will be assessed by EQUIS. An appropriate business process design is required to meet that 10 standards and criteria. The business process design methodology, named integrated business process for higher education system (IBEST), starts from analyzing the 10 standards and criteria of EQUIS. The next step is to design a process with an appropriate input and output that will answer that certain standard and criteria. After each standard and criteria has an appropriate process, those processes will be classified by its type (planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation) and its time cycle (10 years, 5 years, 1 year, and 6 months). In addition to primary business process design, a human resources business process design is also needed as one of supporting business processes.
