Here's the just-released A&E media announcement ..."Working Title: ROLLER GIRLS: They are waitresses and school teachers, biologists and attorneys. Many are married. Some have children. They are also ex-homecoming queens starved for glamour and athletes looking for the adrenaline rush that comes from knocking someone over a railing. Some are rock’n’roll chicks just out for a good time, and they are all proud, strong women, in Austin, Texas - and they are united by that strangest and most unexpected of American of sports, Roller Derby."Exceptional women at the center of a growing national trend. Here's the deal:I will be at SOME practices, but not all of them. I can make Sundays easier than I can make Wednesdays. When I can not be there, Christy (or other designated person) will take attendance. I have a lot of important stuff to handle (regarding derby), and can not always drive all the way out there just to check peoples names off of a list. I will be at some of the practices, but not all. I will be there this Sunday because I miss all of you!!!My position within this league is secretary/ administrative/ development (same as it's always been). Set your VCRs, TiVos, or just set your alarm to get up early on a Saturday...The LA Derby Dolls are going to be featured on the show "Timeless", to be aired on ESPN2 on Saturday March 12th @ 8:30am PST/11:30am EST.The ESPN folks shot footage of us preparing for and skating in our first game. You'll see action packed skating, plus interviews and spotlights on some of the girls and their off-track lives. And since the cameras constantly seemed to show up in our dressing rooms, you may even see a panty shot or two. Rachael Brown, AKA Juana Destroya broke her ankle. She is having surgery and having all kinds of pins and stuff placed in her ankle. This means that she’s going to have a real difficult time doing things for quite a while (working, cooking, etc.) The deductible for Rachael’s insurance is $1000, which she has had to pay out of her own pocket before the insurance will even begin to cover her. Being that she’s financially strained, she could really use our help ladies! This Sunday at practice we will have a big get-well card for everyone to sign, as well as a “drop box” at sign-in to contribute to the fund to help Rachael out. ANYTHING you can afford to donate would be GREATLY appreciated. You can drop in your donation anonymously, or put it in an envelope with your name on it. I Just got off the phone with her...shes on her way to her ortho appointment. She's in pretty good spirits. She said they gave her morphine last night to reset her ankle and splint it. There is one bone that is going to need screws and shit in it. CRAP!Her mom is with her. Her son is being a big help and boyfriend was on his way over. She has an office job so she's not too worried about returning to work. yay! She said that they make her wait till thurs to put the screws and shit in her leg. They need to let the swelling go down.
