Представлен наукометрический анализ информации о грантах в публикациях с российской аффилиацией в... more Представлен наукометрический анализ информации о грантах в публикациях с российской аффилиацией в ведущих научных журналах, проиндексированных одновременно в этих ведущих базах: Scopus и Web of Science. На основе метаданных массива российских публикаций в журналах Nature Index за 2014-2017 гг. проведено сравнение полноты данных о грантовых фондах в двух базах и выделены фонды и организации России с наибольшим числом таких публикаций. Проанализирована грантовая поддержка публикаций ведущих вузов России, исследована динамика активности как российских, так и зарубежных фондов, а также международное соавторство. Сделаны выводы о существенном превосходстве Web of Science по полноте индексации информации, а также о том, что число публикаций с указанием РФФИ в качестве грантодателя ранее превышало число публикаций с указанием РНФ, но в последнее время тенденция поменялась: РНФ стал заявляться в большем числе публикаций при сохранении значимой роли иностранных грантодателей. Identifying Predatory Journals The characteristics of predatory journals are becoming well known.... more Identifying Predatory Journals The characteristics of predatory journals are becoming well known. As mentioned, predatory journals use spam email to solicit articles, they have a fast and often fake peer review process, and they supply false information about their locations. Many now also make false claims about having impact factors or being included in prestigious academic indexes. Now it’s important to verify all claims made by open-access journals, for many are dishonest. The lists I publish also identify predatory journals and publishers, and many researchers find them useful. These lists are found at < scholarlyoa.com >. Compiled with the help and advice of many active researchers, the lists include publishers and journals that ought to be avoided by honest researchers.

We present the results of a large-scale study of potentially predatory journals (PPJ) represented... more We present the results of a large-scale study of potentially predatory journals (PPJ) represented in the Scopus database, which is widely used for research evaluation. Both journal metrics and country\disciplinary data have been evaluated for different groups of PPJ: those listed by Jeffrey Beall and those delisted by Scopus because of "publication concerns". Our results show that even after years of delisting, PPJ are still highly visible in the Scopus database with hundreds of active potentially predatory journals. PPJ papers are continuously produced by all major countries, but with different shares. All major subject areas are affected. The largest number of PPJ papers are in engineering and medicine. On average, PPJ have much lower citation metrics than other Scopus-indexed journals. We conclude with a brief survey of the case of Kazakhstan where the share of PPJ papers at one time amounted to almost a half of all Kazakhstan papers in Scopus, and propose a link between PPJ share and national research evaluation policies (in particular, rules of awarding academic degrees). The progress of potentially predatory journal research will be increasingly important because such evaluation methods are becoming more widespread in times of the Metric Tide (Wilsdon, et al., 2015).
