- James Cameron's pitch may have been simple, but he truly hit a home run and made a sequel that can stand toe-to-toe with its predecessor. While Aliens takes the fight to the Xenomorph menace, it doesn't forget that these monsters are intergalactic apex predators, able to eliminate whole colonies and Colonial Marine regiments, with Ripley's trauma further making them something to be feared while keeping a connection to its human story, making her turn toward badass so much more rewarding. Grouped with a team of just as compelling survivors, Aliens is not only iconic for the perfect escalation and build-up upon Ridley Scott's world that faithfully carried over its themes, but can stand alone as a cinematic classic.
- Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Manages to outshine the original movie, and has never been matched by any movie following its release. If I could give it an "11", I would.
- Aliens finally clicked for me on my most recent rewatch. Used to place it at the bottom of my James Cameron rankings but has moved up significantly since. Love the direction this movie goes, not wanting to rehash the first film but carve out its own identity. Really thrilling stuff in here as well.
