Lancelot, who was the greatest of all earthly knights, is heavily admonished on the quest by the white monks because of his treacherous mortal sin, which was his adultery with Queen Guinevere who is King Arthur's wife. This inconsiderable act is most disloyal to both his earthly king and liege lord, whom he is a vassal of, and reflects more deeply on the state of his soul before God, which is afflicted by mortal sin. One hermit relinquishes intricate details and insights into the virtues of knighthood in their utmost perfection, and it is made clear that those virtues were embodied by Lancelot as an early knight before the time of his mortal sin. It is in later years that the sin manifests as lustful desires and leads to treachery. It is briefly pointed out that it is his pride, after the conquering of the Dolores Guard, that leads him into a violent cycle of mortal sin which inhibits him from accomplishing the Holy Grail and ultimately destroys the Arthurian kingdom when that sin is revealed. In the earliest adventures of Lancelot, before this mortal sin, he is acclaimed and praised for holding the four essential virtues of perfect knighthood. The first of which is natural virginity. The knight who protects his maidenhood is truly united as a soldier of God and free from vice. At the center of all virtue, this is equated as most vital to maintaining honor, prowess and all good works. In addition to the central attainment of chastity and maidenhood there are other virtues that are embodied by the early Lancelot. He maintains a consistent state of humility. The hermit who counsels Lancelot states that he once "walked softly with his head lowered" and "dared not look at the divine image for fear that God might be angry with him." (Burns) Lancelot even emulated patience and the hermits says that "nothing can defeat the enemy as effectively as patience." (Burns) He had a sense of justice by which he administered with a deep sense of equality. Rather than showing partiality to a lover or family member he did what was right, in accordance with the law, even if that meant condemnation of his closest kin. The white monk identifies true justice as one who "gives nothing for the sake of love and takes nothing for the

The four humors were considerably known to be the exemplified forms of character in the medieval mind. What reason have they drifted away from relevancy? On the contrary, these visages, demonstrate the thorough folly of the human being to drive their character to excess. A lack of balance among the four characters results in a disintegration of the human spirit and leads to death. A balance or "equilibrium", as termed in the study, is the attainment of wholeness and true understanding. A lack of balance with the four humors leads to the polls of excess, which are accompanied by derangement, violence and the absence of formality. Primary Evidence: The turning cycles of fate show that an abundance of joy leads to an abundance of sorrow and likewise to the opposite. Like a wheel of fortune, the fame of glory and the prosperity of success turns to withering and scarcity in different seasons. Just as the summer is hot, the winter is cold. Queen Iseut despairs over her love with Tristan.

Organized action, protest and the critique on mechanized labour and capitalism are at the focal point of the novel and these tools are used in an attempt to elevate the Harlem community. First, this paper will look at the varying anti-capitalist images throughout the novel. Then, it looks at the characters Brockway and Rinehart who uphold the capitalist and white paradigm by reinforcing negative black stereotypes and precluding effective organization and action. Then, it will convey how Ras prophetically alluded to the malignant system of capitalism that sacrifices community for money; he links the futility of this system to the problematic dispersal of the black community. Last, the paper will contend that the overt theme and solution to this malignant system is effective organization (through oratory talent) and action against the paradigms that bar the community (whether working class or racially oppressed-the two often are analogous in this struggle). This imagery culminates within the figure Dupre, who is effectively taking organized action against the white racist and capitalist paradigms by using the rhetorical , organizational and intellectual tools that were gifted to him by speakers like the Narrator who are symbolic of the talented tenth. Often it is the talented tenth that are seen as uplifting the entire community , such as was considered the case in Harlem communities at the time Ellison wrote (through the foundational tools wrought on via leftist political ideology).

Therefore, this complex narrative is layered in tragic displacement; Dinesen's object, throughout the novel, is to incorporate into her narrative the forgotten and dispossessed. The tragic symbol of European society at the focal point of world war (steeped in nationalist sentiments and mechanized labour), the tragic symbol of Dinesen as a female conquered and dominated in a patriarchal society and the tragic displacement of the Native African tribes by colonial exploitation all interact to indicate that universal suffering is prevalent in the individual and collective, the racial and gender categories of human agency (across cultural boundaries). The basis for transcending social, racial and geographic barriers is done through tragic identification and embarks on an exploration of Blixen's use of symbolism to convey emotional meaning. At the core, there are multiple layers of tragedy and many whom are dispossessed. Indeed, much is, according to Dinesen, subject to fate and destiny. In particular, tragic symbolism, through their respective layers, is best seen in the interactions between Emmanuelson and the Masai, the Ngoma festival, the German Cuckoo clock, the millstone table, and the fawn. Furthermore, the tragedies of colonial conquest and World War are Elizabethan tragedies given the foreknowledge that the event enacted was not only leading to violence but inherently sinful. Meanwhile, Dinesen's exploited womanhood and loss of the farm is emblematic of a Greek Tragedy given her heroic identification, the structural fate that consigns her, and the recognition of " hubris " rather than inherent vice.

The flame of hope was kindled in John from the moment he set eyes on Jasmine. Her cordovan colored skin and curvy slim shape had ingrained in his memory so deeply that, no matter how he tried, he could never shake away the inner hope that enlarged him at the very sight, no, the mere memory of her. Sir John had traveled through many outlying villages in the region seeking adventure, but it was never in such wise that he concluded to find lodging with a servant girl. A noble knight ought to dwell in the stronghold with all the wealthy barons amidst sparkling red wine and merry minstrels, right? Sir John was at his wit's end, for he no longer had any means to support himself. Poor was not quite adequate enough to describe his situation.
