buildings can be found all through the complex of the küllyie of the Ulu Camii of Manisa, built in 1374
(776 H) by Ishak Bey of the Selçiuk Saruhan family. The most important group of spolia is represented
by column capitals, both Classical and Byzantine. While the Classical specimens belong mostly to
the third century, the Christian ones are of the early and middle byzantine period. The latter is a very
heterogeneous collection that includes the so-called Theodosian capitals (fifth-sixth centuries) and
several impost-capitals of the eleventh century. The essay pays particular attention to a rare capital
of the Ionic impost type, which can be dated to the first years of the sixth century

basin, the Adriatic coasts were aff ected too by a massive fl ow of marble either as raw material or completed sculpture. In the Marche region arrival
of materials from Marmara quarries dating from 2nd to 6th century was encouraged by imperial (Trajan Arch at Ancona) and high ecclesiastical (S.
Ciriaco) patronage, but in a broader perspective, the presence of Proconnesian marble depended on autonomous economic and trade relations that
Ancona and other Marche ports were able to entertain with the production centers of the Marmara, the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

Abstract: It is examined the spread of the Corinthian capitals of the type known as 'Medallion' in the specific variant with decorative inserts. Over forty specimens are differently distributed in the Mediterranean and Pontic regions, whose patterns can be identified and justified in the field of Con-stantinople.
