Exploring key concepts from the writings of Hannah Arendt, such as plurality, conscious pariah, and statelessness, alongside her embodied interrogation of anti-Semitism and the Jewish Question, it suggests a way to transgress the ordinary boundaries of the concepts of queer, international, and feminist and, conversely, to unbound the ordinary ways Arendt’s theories have been interpreted as less relevant, if not antithetical to, feminist, intersectional, and queer theories and politics.

It concludes that the Commune represented a major rupture with both republican Jacobinism, embodied in the French Revolution and perfected in the Third Republic, and modes of citizenship practiced in the Second Empire-an Empire legitimated by the ideology of populism and the idealization of universal suffrage. Hence, it brings to light a feminism that cannot be reduced either to the liberal individualist discourse of rights, or to orthodox socialist theory.
