People who can not speak English in the United States for reasons such as being an immigrant, ref... more People who can not speak English in the United States for reasons such as being an immigrant, refugee or victim of human trafficking face more than just language barriers to say ordering food at a restaurant. Access to ESL classes is important for this population in order for them to not only survive in society, but also thrive. Alanen (2009), points out the challenge of providing adequate ESL classes by saying, "It is not uncommon for immigrants, many of whom are paid significantly less than the minimum wage, to work…three jobs…leaving little or no time for language studies" and "…cannot access or afford the collateral costs of attending English as a Second Language classes, such as transportation or childcare, and pricey tuition and lengthy …waitlists present…obstacles" (p. 95).
When Korean EFL language learners speak they often make pronunciation errors.
