Information gathered from the Bureau of the Census and a review cf the literature available indic... more Information gathered from the Bureau of the Census and a review cf the literature available indicate that few school districts make use of the comprehensive data collected by the decennial federal census or the data collected and updated annually by the individual state departments of education. Educational planners should have a complete understanding cf the characteristics of their school districts and the population they service to make educationally effective and fiscally scund judgments in long-and short-range planning. The various categories of information are summarized and outlines of several alternatives for implementation in district planning are suggested. (Author)
