This essay explores the intersection of social justice principles and the Jesus movement within the context of Greco-Roman Jewish society, examining its implications for victims of conflict. Beginning with an overview of social justice concepts, including historical and contemporary perspectives, the essay delves into the unique socio-political landscape of the Greco-Roman Jewish world. It explores the political influences of Roman rule and the cultural impact of Hellenism on Jewish society, highlighting the tensions between Jewish identity and Hellenistic assimilation. Through an analysis of key figures and events, such as the rule of Herod the Great and the Maccabean Revolt, the essay contextualizes the Jesus movement within a framework of societal upheaval and resistance to oppressive forces. Furthermore, it examines how the encounter between Hellenism and Judaism shaped religious practices, linguistic shifts, and socio-economic dynamics, influencing the development of sectarian divisions and resistance movements.
