AP Nirmal has argued that the 'dalitness' is what makes the Dalits theologically Christian as the incarnation of God through Jesus Christ reveals a suffering saviour who offers liberation, and protests the forces of death through the offering of one’s body and blood, leading to the Eucharist becoming a subaltern weapon of protest. This paper engages with the hermeneutic of postnormal times proposed by Ziauddin Sardar to read and analyse the upheaval of our times and responds with reimagining protest through ‘subaltern liturgical theology’, an Indian/South Asian version of postcolonial liturgical theology proposed by Claudio Carvalhaes.

The central argument of this paper is Williams' approach is more than a "minimalist approach" as termed by Peter Jordan, and can be understood as a more of an "enriched engagement" in the light of his interdisciplinary approaches, in the face of claims (Jordan 2016) of supremacy of science. The paper concludes by offering a critique of Williams' methodology from an Indian intersectional perspective, pointing to areas of further enriching nuanced conversations in the theological engagement with science.
