In the midst of the huge development in processors industry as a response to the increasing deman... more In the midst of the huge development in processors industry as a response to the increasing demand for high-speed processors manufacturers were able to achieve the goal of producing the required processors, but this industry disappointed hopes, because it faced problems not amenable to solution, such as complexity, hard management and large consumption of energy. These problems forced the manufacturers to stop the focus on increasing the speed of processors and go toward parallel processing to increase performance. This eventually produced multicore processors with high-performance, if used properly. Unfortunately, until now, these processors did not use as it should be used; because of lack support of operating system and software applications. The purpose of this research is to analyze and identify the challenges faced by multicore processors operating systems.

A variety of programming languages are used to teach fundamentals of programming in Universities ... more A variety of programming languages are used to teach fundamentals of programming in Universities in Sri Lanka. Among them Python is a modern language with readable and clean syntax. Python is a widely used high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. Its design philosophy emphasizes code readability, and its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than possible in languages such as C++ or Java. The language provides constructs intended to enable writing clear programs on both a small and large scale. Python supports multiple programming paradigms, including object-oriented, imperative, functional programming, and procedural styles. It features a dynamic type system and automatic memory management and has a large and comprehensive standard library. Its design was informed by experiences with other teaching languages so it is considered suitable for such use. However some universities teach PASCAL which is rarely used now. In this research I will discuss the possibility of replacing this Pascal with Python.

The organizing process of International academic conferences consists of very time consuming and ... more The organizing process of International academic conferences consists of very time consuming and full of paper work for event handling such as Call for papers, submission of papers by authors, review process, registration process of author and general participants. Currently, there are several systems in use to support paper submissions to academic conferences, but they still require program chairs to spend a lot of time in organizing papers. Not only program chairs, authors and reviewers also facing difficulties to send their papers. To further improve the situation and reduce the burden of the chairs, and authors an e-conference management system is desirable. My research presented in this paper is part of the effort toward realizing such an e-conference management system called as "EasyChair".

Research is going on right now all over the universities in the world. Research plays a crucial role in an undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study programmes in all over the world. Many undergraduate degree programs require students to develop a basic understanding of research methodology. Undergraduate students’ participation in hands-on research is widely believed to encourage students to pursue advanced degrees and careers in science, technology, social sciences, engineering, and mathematics and every fields. Undergraduate research experiences help them for their higher studies as well as it help them to do experiments and discussions to find out an answer for unsolved problems. In South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, all faculties conduct the research conferences and symposiums. However, Undergraduate Students participation is very law. Few students only participated in this symposium; therefore, we do this study to find reasons behind it. Additionally, the research interest on undergraduate had been examined through online survey. Moreover, we use primary and secondary data collection methods to collect the data. As conclusion, this information is beneficial for academics for the development of future research in the field. Keywords; Interest, Research, Undergraduate Students INTRODUCTION Research is defined as a careful consideration of study regarding a particular concern or a problem using scientific methods. According to the American sociologist Earl Robert Babbie, “Research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict and control the observed phenomenon. Research involves inductive and deductive methods.” There are two types of mostly usable research methods. That are Inductive research methods and deductive methods. Inductive research methods are used to analyze the observed phenomenon whereas; deductive methods are used to verify the observed phenomenon. Inductive approaches are associated with qualitative research and deductive methods are more commonly associated with research. One of the most important aspects of research is the statistics associated with it, conclusion or result. It is about the “thought” that goes behind the research. Research is conducted with a purpose to understand (Robert Babbie) Many undergraduate degree programs require students to develop a basic understanding of research methodology. Unfortunately, methods courses are typically unpopular with students because the course material is complex and technical in nature. In South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, undergraduate students can follow general or special degree courses. Special degree starts their second year. Special degree students’ must needs to do a research to complete their degree program. However, general degree students it has not needed. In addition, all the undergraduate students learn research methodology subject in their third year-end semester. Therefore, general degree students do not get any chance to do a research. Because when they study the research methodology subject, it is the time to leave them in university. There has been tremendous growth in the use of the mobile phones in all over the world by all age people. The mobile phones are available to the people right from the age of 12 years. Mobile phone has gained wider acceptability, usability and it is becoming a most popular communication tool among the teachers and students. The mobile phone technology has brought the world closer. It provided great convenience in communication among people by way of either calling or texting. Now, the mobile phones are coming up with variety of features like internet access, sending e-mails, games, access to social networking sites like face-book, listening to music, playing radio, reading books, dictionary and so on. I found that, nowadays most of the school teachers use mobile phones. Also it causes to students to addict to the phone. However, though the mobile phone provided many advantages, it has also caused some problems also. The main objective of this paper is to identify the needs and use of mobile phones and to make aware the teachers of problems and disadvantages of using mobile phones. Social media has gained wider acceptability, usability and it is becoming a most popular communication tool among the students especially all the higher education institute students. There are many social media are exist. Among that Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter are gaining more and more patronage than others. These websites and social forums are way of communicating directly with other people socially. On these platforms, they get a chance and freedom to share their own opinion, ideas and comments. The purpose of this study is to identify use, usefulness, and impact of social media on the academic performance of the university students. Impact of Social Media use on Academic Performance among University Students had been examined through online survey by using The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as variable to measure. Moreover, I use the group discussion, interview, research article and internet. This study is carried out in order to highlight the potentials of social media in the academic setting by collaborative learning and improve the students' academic performance. The results show that collaborative learning positively and significantly with interactive with peers, interactive with lecturers and engagement, which affect the students’ academic performance.
