Easy Way To Make 5-STRAND BRAID With Thread Or Yarn - SewGuide (original) (raw)

The gorgeously thick plaited hair of Rapunzel – isn’t that on most girls’ wishlist? Even if you do not have the impossibly thick hair in the fairytale, it is possible to make your hair look nicely plaited like that – by braiding using 5 sections.

This method uses the 5-strand braiding. It is one of the best ways to make belts, and trims as it is somewhat flat but with lots of texture.

And here is a tutorial for making the 5-strand braid.

5-strand braid – Tutorial

Take 5 strands of cord approximately 10 inches long (or as per your need)

Keep your yarn, fabric strips, fibers or whatever you are using, arranged in front of you; you need to see them clearly – I have clipped them on to my clip board. You can also tape or pin them on to a foam board.

Place the 5 strands on a hold

Please remember that this braiding consists of just 2 movements of the yarn (Step 1 and Step 2); after doing this, these same movements are repeated again and again. It is that easy to make a 5 strand braid.

Step 1.

Cross the left strand (yellow) over the 2nd one (red).

Move the strand on the left side to the right

Step 2.

Bring the far right strand to the 2nd left poition. Not simply over the whole threads, but in a under over fashion.

Move the other strand on the other side to top of the second left one

Step 3.

Bring the far left strand over the 2nd strand.(as you did in step 1)

Move the now left strand over the second one now

After this repeat the Step 2 and continue doing the step 1 and step 2 till you have your braid.

the 5strand braid is formed this way

Pull tight (not too taut) at every step to get a neat and flat and even appearance.

After the first awkwardness, it is very easy to make this braid; your hands will automatically start doing the steps and you will have the braid in no time.
