This study aimed to assess whether parental dental anxiety and knowledge of caries preventive measures are associated with their psychological profiles and their children's oral health. Methods: This case-control study involved parents, who were divided according to whether their children did or did not have active caries. The differences in Short version of the Dental Anxiety Inventory, and Knowledge of Caries Preventive Measures (KCPM) scores between the parents whose children have and do not have active caries was established by the Mann-Whitney U test (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Parental dental anxiety and knowledge of caries preventive measures are associated with the oral health of their children.

It was also the aim to establish level of agreement between students, dentists and children in their assessment of child's behaviour. Methods. Assessment of dental anxiety in dental office was carried out in the sample of 63 child patients (33 boys, and 30 girls). The age of patients ranged from 3 to 16 years (mean = 7.16 years). Child's behaviour ratings before and after treatment were obtained from dental students, specialists of paediatric dentistry and children in the dental chair. The child's behaviour was assessed using Frankl's Rating Scale, Wright’s Rating Scale, and Facial Image Scale (FIS). The Crombach’s alpha was calculated to establish internal reliability of the scales. Results. The correlation coefficients between scores obtained by students, doctors, and children were calculated to establish validity of scales. There was a high agreement on the FIS after treatment between ratings from the doctors and students (r = 0.754 ; P < 0.01). Child’s ratings on the FIS after treatment showed a high correlations with ratings from students and doctors (r = 0.713 ; P < 0.01 ; and r = 0.682 ; P < 0.01, respectively). Conclusion. High value of Crombach’s alpha (α = 0.8528) allow conclusion that three rating scales provide highly reliable assessment of child behaviour in dental office. FIS scale should be regarded as suitable and reliable instrument for measuring child dental anxiety.

Five different composites were used (Evetric, GrandioSO, Admira Fusion, Filtek Z550, Dynamic Plus). The gloss of the tested material was measured with a glossmeter before and after chemical degradation in different acidic beverages. Statistical analysis was performed using a t-test for dependent samples, ANOVA, and a post hoc test. For comparison between groups, a level of significance was set at 0.05. Initial gloss values ranged from 51 to 93 at baseline to 32 to 81 after chemical degradation. The highest values were obtained for Dynamic Plus (93.5 GU) and GrandioSO (77.8 GU), followed by Admira Fusion (82 GU) and Filtek Z550 (70.5 GU). Evetric showed the lowest initial gloss values. After acidic exposures, the gloss measurements revealed different patterns of surface degradation. The results showed that the gloss of the samples decreased ...

Forty-eight teeth in 24 patients [mean (SD) = 8 (2.3) years] with well-delineated fissure morphology were randomly divided into two equal groups and sealed with Bis-GMA resin-based Helioseal F (group A, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein) and Glass Carbomer (group B, Glass Carbomer Sealant, Glass Carbomer Products, Leiden, Netherlands) using the split mouth design. Materials were placed and set according to the manufacturer's instructions using a polymerization unit Bluephase 16i (Vivadent, Liechtenstein). Complete sealant retentions in both groups were 100% and 75% after 6 and 12 months of clinical service, respectively. There were there were no s...
