Research paper thumbnail of The spectrum of sonographic findings in enteric fever cases of paediatrics age group in Gurugram region of Haryana, India

Nepal Medical College journal, Apr 4, 2022

The diagnosis becomes difficult because of inherent limitation due to the long standing vague complaints. Some findings like acalculus cholecystitis, hepatosplenomegaly, enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN) and free fluid can easily be picked up by ultrasonography (USG). USG is easily available, without any ionizing radiation, non-invasive and economical. Hemoculture and Widal tests are time consuming and the cost is quite high. The study was conducted with 100 paediatric patients aged 1-year to 15-year. All were having enteric fever based on typhi dot-IgM presented to the paediatric department of the hospital. USG was conducted for the evaluation of the various relevant findings. Blood samples for CBC, LFT and blood culture were taken on the same day as that of USG evaluation. USG evaluation of confirmed enteric fever cases revealed that 25% had gall bladder findings, 23% had hepatosplenomegaly, 11% had hepatomegaly, 1% had enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN) and 3% had thickened caecum wall and ileocaecal junction. USG can diagnose many findings which are related to enteric fever and are helpful in starting the early management. Hemoculture and other investigations may delay the treatment which can lead to various complications.

Research paper thumbnail of Vitreous hemorrhage: How important is role of radiological evaluation? A Case report

Ultrasound is a very useful and effective modality in the diagnosis of VH. Sonography also helps in diagnosing the pathology of surrounding structures around the posterior chamber. This also helps in delineating the retinal anatomy. The opaque posterior chamber can easily be assessed by this modality. We present the case of a 15-year-old boy who reported with the left eye trauma 3 months back. He had initial redness and discharge followed by gradual loss of vision. He underwent sonographic evaluation of the left eye and was found to be having VH. He was advised surgical intervention by vitrectomy because of the chronicity of the problem. Ultrasonography of the eye is a very useful and effective tool for quick and hassle-free diagnosis of VH. This helps in fast management and can be useful in the salvage of some parts of the eye and subsequently vision. Medical and surgical contemplation can be carried out as per the sonographic findings.

These are highly vascular solid tumors which have classical diagnosis in contrast-enhanced computerized tomography (CECT) and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CEMRI). These require early management because of their secondary symptoms related to hydrocephalus and others due to tumoral compression. Case Report: We present a 10-month-old male child with abnormal eye movements and fever following head trauma seventeen days before. Ultrasound of the brain revealed the hyperechoic mass in the right lateral ventricle. CECT and CEMRI diagnosed as a case of choroid plexus papilloma with gross hydrocephalus. This was a silent CPP which came to limelight following head trauma. Ventriculoperitoneal shunt was placed for the decompression of the ventricular system and was advised for subsequent surgical management. Conclusio...

Research paper thumbnail of Evaluation of Direct Chest Circumference Measurement as an Efficient Tool in the Reduction of Radiation Dose in Multi-Slice Computerized Tomography of Chest- A Suggestion for Radiographers

Nepal Medical College Journal, 2021

In the era of COVID-19 pandemic, the use of chest NCCT has increased many fold. The reason was because it will resolve many issues and quick diagnosis can be made. The same was also required to see the behavior of the disease as well as in the follow-up. Basically two parameter are in use to described the amount of radiation dose received by the patient in volumetric CT. These are, one is CT Dose Index (CTDIvol) & its unit is mGy, and the second is dose length product (DLP). With normal pitch factor i.e. 1, the CTDIw is use on the description of CTDIvol. Multiplication of scan length and CTDIvol parameter is known as Dose Length Product (DLP). There was much concern about the radiation dose received by the individual. A total of twenty-six individuals were studied. The measurement of direct chest circumference before each CT chest examination and correlation o...

These are the frequently encountered procedures in the medical practices. Many conditions warrant sending the cases of pleural effusion cases for intervention. Most of the cases had been tried blindly first in their respective departments but failed because of various reasons. It had been documented regarding the advantages and disadvantages of blind and ultrasonography (USG) guided procedures. The aim of the study was to highlight the advantages and benefits of USG guided thoracentesis. We carried out USG guided thoracentesis of fifty cases in our radiology section who were referred to us by various departments. There were 19 female (38%) and 31 male (62%) patients. All these candidates had failed in blind procedures, when tried first. All these cases underwent USG guided thoracentesis with almost negligible complications. These were found to be having pleural fluid coll...
