_5:18 pm_[fishphile] | Mmm, New Here I'm a mid-twenties goth/punk. I've been into the alternative scene for almost 6 years now. I also love industrial, ska and some classic rock. I dig bluegrass instrumental music, which I'm just getting into, but can't stand bluegrass with singing. I see a lot of people are Afro-punk fans here so that's awesome as well. _7:21 pm_[klgaffney] | so are we interested in reviving this comm or what? 90's punk revival band pennywise is touring--when they hit my neck of the woods, they'll have authority zero, one win choice, and strung out opening for them. i offered up a quick mp3 mixtape of the various bands here.hopefully i'll make the show on friday. how about you guys? anybody planning on checking out any shows this summer? if you do go to shows, what's your all time favorite show or favorite venue? at the moment my personal favorite venue is the starland ballroom (dropkick and the bosstones are playing there in july, that's going to be CRAZY), but i still have fond memories of philly's trocadaro. as far as favorite shows in recent memory goes, i'm having trouble deciding; i think i'll have to go with rise against, in support of their last album. that was a damn good show. i was completely soaked, and i had no voice for the next two days. =p Current Mood: good (Comment on this) |

_10:34 am_[klgaffney] | and since it IS all about the music... yeah, it's me again. don't worry, i'm not gonna spam y'all to death--it just occurred to me that a few of my still-active music posts might be of interest.1. i threw up a very sketchy and informal "punk of the 80's" post including nearly 30 songs, here in my personal lj.2. are you all aware that trent reznor released his latest album (slip) for free download?as a thank you to our fans for your continued support, we are giving away the new nine inch nails album [slip] one hundred percent free, exclusively via nin.com.it's not the instrumental experimental dischord of ghosts--it's a honest-to-gods nine inch nails album. it's pretty much classic trent. okay, more specifically, i'd say with teeth < slip < year zero on the classic trent-ness scale. i don't even bother comparing anything to pretty hate machine or broken anymore. anyway, that's all i've got for now. anybody else got anything to shout out? comments, questions, critiques, likes, dislikes, demands, flames? step up to the mic and say hi! i don't bite--unless you're into that. Current Mood: good (4 Comments |Comment on this) |
_10:10 am_[klgaffney] | stencilpunks.com hi y'all. short time lurker, first time poster. i'm an old lady--been hanging out in the metal, punk and hardcore scenes since late 80's, early 90's, back when curious white folks would come up to me and go "....you actually like this band? really?" i came across stencilpunks.com in my travels, and i thought i'd pass it along. i don't know about you, but think i'm going to be making a LOT of new patches and t-shirt recycling this summer. ;) Current Mood: cheerful (Comment on this) |

_4:32 pm_[lynchedhearted] | More people...It's a miracle Hello, everyone. Like everyone else here I am an alt. I've been walking this path a long time alone and i've never really had any one else to walk it with me. So I was psyched to find this group (Although i'm already a part of BAAGS and A Darker Shade of Pale and Afropunk and have been with ADSOP for 5+ years now). I don't really know what else to say other than that i'll try my hardest to post on this group every once in a while. I'm a college student and it's hard to find time to myself to do stuff(I study fashion) But i'm looking for friends in the NYC area. I'm into everything from Punk to Deathrock to Gothic, etc. See my profile for a Myspace link. (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_5:27 am_[aros716] | Alone. This may be a bit extreme, however it is the only view I have left. I am a hispanic male living in a scene completely flooded by superficial views and an empty lifestyle. I made the decision to attend Ohio State thinking that the 50,000+ population would allow me to meet all kinds of people and eventually lead me to find some kind of comfortable niche. However, that isn't the case at all. I feel as though I am trapped among people that will never be able to understand me because of my background. Essentially, I am a first generation, born in the US, alternative kid with no outlet for discussion or understanding. Not to sound lame, but I had no idea that there was an entire sub culture based on assimilated hispanics who maintain their heritage despite their alternative lifestyles. I crave so badly to find people with whom I can relate so that I may find some sort of sanity or justification for the way I am. Thus, I reach out to you my fellow livejournal users. I hope this was not in vain.Sincerely,Alex Rosa Current Mood: crushed (6 Comments |Comment on this) |

_4:08 pm_[bluegreen_lens] | March on Jena - January 21st! January 21st: Oppose the Lynch Mob Racists! No to Nooses! Free the Jena Six! We Want a Better World!White Supremacists plan to march in Jena on Martin Luther King Day in 2008. On Martin Luther King day of all days, the one day that is supposed to be about the struggle of Black people, they are coming to march with Nooses! This is a call to people everywhere: On Monday January 21st, get to Jena! OPPOSE THE LYNCH MOB RACISTS! Displaying nooses is a hateful and terrorizing message. These racists want to take us back to the days of lynch mobs murdering Black people in this country. Nooses are INTOLERABLE. Bring a sign, hang a poster, make a banner, get to Jena, SAY NO TO NOOSES! The Jena High students said no to nooses hung at their school when they protested by standing underneath the “white only tree”. Then on September 20th, 2007 tens of thousands of people stood up, marching in Jena and around the country. People said Enough is Enough to the injustice in punishing Black youth who take a stand against racism. The white supremacists call Black youth criminals and thugs, they say, “Jail the Jena Six”. Let's say it loud again in Jena: FREE THE JENA SIX! It is in response to September 20th and what that day achieved that white supremacists are lashing out, with a message that takes us back to the horrors of lynch mobs and segregation. When racism rears its ugly head, it is up to people everywhere white and Black, people of all nationalities, to take a stand. If you are against injustice and inequality, if you want racism to end... its up to you to voice it! If we don't speak up and stand up, this horrific message will go unopposed. If not us who? If not now when? Protest in Jena on January 21st. Join people everywhere in politically opposing white supremacy and drowning out their message of hate with the message that WE WANT A BETTER WORLD. January 21st Committee Initial signatories: * A group of 14 Jena residents Black and white, young and old, including two parents of the Jena Six * Reverend Raymond Brown Community Activist, New Orleans * William Winters, Baton Rouge Activist * Student Organizers from University of California, PA and Howard University * Alice Woodward and Hank Brown, Jena, LA correspondents for Revolution * Herb Boyd, The Black World Today, NY,NY * Don Rojas, The Black World Today, NY,NY * Miky Espinal, NY organizer for Health & Hospital Workers Union 1199* * Thomas Kleven, Professor of Law, Thurgood Marshall School of Law * Idress Stelley Foundation * Education Not Incarceration (SanFransisco Chapter) * San Fransisco Bayview Free The Jena Six Task Force * San Fransisco Village Voice Community Radio, 105.5 FM * San Fransisco Bay view Campaign to End the Death Penalty * Sess 4-5 Nuthin But Fire Records, New Orleans * Cindy Sheehan, Candidate for Congress, California's 8th district, mother of KIA soldier Casey Sheehan * 60 residents of Cabrini Green, Chicago * C3 (Community, Concern, Compassion)/Hands Off Iberville, New Orleans * Mayday New Orleans * Don Paul, writer, musician, Housing is a Human Right, New Orleans *For identification purposes only Join us! _10:12 am_[_darkvictory] | Giant Space Chicken (this is not spam) On Thursday, August 9th, the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (11513 Burbank Blvd. North Hollywood), will feature Hugo Award winning artist Frank Wu hosting a screening of the director’s cut of his short film “Guidolon the Giant Space Chicken”. You may have seen the film on YouTube. Here's a chance to catch it on the big screen at LASFS followed by a conversation with Frank. Also on the bill will be Danielle Stallings presenting her short film, “Haunted Planet”, which has screened at the London International of Science Fiction and Fantastic Films, the Maryland Film Festival, and the Science Fiction Short Film Festival at the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. The films will be screened after the regular meeting of the LASFS, which starts at 8pm (or thereabouts), which would put the screening at about 9pm. For information about the club, directions to the clubhouse, and other esoterica, check the LASFS website or LJ community. (Comment on this) |

_2:45 pm_[blonde_grapie] | ::sigh of relief:: Thank God! I was starting to think I was the only one. I can breath now. I'm not surrounded by white people. Not that I have problem with them or anything it's just nice to be around your own kind sometimes. I mean I have this friend who's mixed(or so she says), but she doesn't really own up to it, you know? She doesn't even have any black friends except for me and this other girl who's also my friend. She says she likes black people and she respects them and all, but I don't think she even wants anything to do with the black community period. She's pretty much just a white girl with a little color and puffy hair. She's only "mixed" when someone offends her or when the subject of race or racial profiling is brought up. I don't mean to vent about the wrong thing if this is the wrong place. I'm just feeling a little betrayed. I'm thinking I had someone to relate to on a certain level and I don't. So I came here. _2:53 pm_[achbarr] | My taste in things have never ben conventional. While I was raised in a world of R & B , Soul and later Rap.....I had additional taste. This is a GOTH/Punk community and more often than not..the only time I met people of color enjoying that sort thing was at a Sci Fi Con of some sort. While I see people of color enjoying the GOTH/Punk scene, they can be counted in my city. How about your's? (3 Comments |Comment on this) |
