The spatial organization of these nodes, considered complex adaptive systems, is a crucial factor in achieving climate comfort. This paper aims to demonstrate how the spatial organization of these nodes affects their microclimate comfort and can accordingly lead to their spatial resilience. Four predominant gentrification nodes, located in New Cairo and Sheikh Zayed, were selected, playing an essential role in the Egyptian real estate market and affecting urban dynamics in both areas. We argue that their spatial organization and how it affects climate comfort play a crucial role in their urban resilience. We believe that the climate comfort they offer will help them keep attracting the same socioeconomic categories of the population despite the changes in the real estate market and the displacement of urban anchors. Moreover, the findings highlighted that climate comfort...

Due to the design complexity of Robotic surgery wards, computational implementations are being developed to either measure the effect of inserting advanced technologies as Electronic medical recorders and tele surgery, or evaluate design alternatives on healthcare building. This paper presents a design framework that responds to the need for coordinating design phases for Robotic Surgery Wards (RSWs) computationally. This proposed design framework for RSWs can generate functional RSW alternatives and more than one solution for each alternative. The framework has been structured based on the main architectural considerations of RSWs which are geometric and topological, the economic considerations, specific developed pools for shape and corridor patterns, and the theory of “Shape Grammars"has been utilized to compute the framework to generate a vast number of design alternatives. Accordingly, a computational implementation has been established to assist designers in early design stages. Numerical validation for the applications of the developed framework and implementation has been conducted by using reference examples of RSWs. The main finding in this paper is providing healthcare building designers with a computational implementation that generates RSW alternative computationally based on specific shape and cost levels.

Hence, a great evolution of Computational Implementations (CIs) were appeared and studied for early stages of design process of HCB, such as generating design solutions, evaluation of design solutions or others to provide helpful tools for designers. This paper provides comparative analyses of a set of CIs that can be applied on different architectural design stages in HCB, these stages includes: a) architectural programming and topological diagram, b) generating design alternatives and c) evaluation of design solutions. The focused CIs in this study have been classified to computational tools, computational algorithms, computational approaches and hybrid methods; they are compared using a set of criteria with various evaluation methods. This comparative analysis helps designers to determine the appropriate CI or CIs' combinations for each main early stage of HCB design, and also the possibilities of connecting two of the studied CIs in a framework to get wider outcomes were studied. The main study findings are the capabilities, limitation and features of each CI, in addition to the best selections in each early stage for different HCB design cases. Also, possible connections between different CIs were discussed on simple examples as a fruitful outcome of analyzing CIs' combinations.

The shield is composed of three layers, as follows: lead layer for gamma attenuation, PMMA (Poly-methyl methacrylate) layer for fast neutron thermalization and a layer of B 2 O 3 for thermal neutron absorption. The shield is contained in a stainless steel container of 0.5 mm thick. The source design verification has been carried out by experimental measurements at different source-to detector distance. The energy spectrum of an 241 Am-Be source is considered in order to study the neutron moderation due to successive elastic scattering with PMMA layer. The neutron and photon total dose rates have been calculated at the surface and one meter from the shield. The results of MCNP5 model are compared with the international transport regulation to ensure the suitability of neutron shield proposed design. The results show that the proposed design of the portable shield satisfies the dose rate limits and can be used for controlling external radiation level during neutron sources transportation, ensuring the safety transport conditions and protection of radiation workers in different applications.

This transformation is being manifested by various phenomena. On the one hand, the feeling of patriotism arose from Al Tahrir square to change the Egyptian’s soul. People start to express their feeling by methods, considered as new to the Egyptian community. On the other hand, another part of the society started to make profit from this revolution and the non-application of the laws. This complex impact of Egyptian Revolution of 2011 on the Cairene urban space – with all its manifestation – has been preoccupying us; especially when it comes to its effect on the urban harmony of the built environment of the city and its relation to the urban collective memory of the population. This research will focus on the analysis of various phenomena appeared after the Egyptian Revolution.

It differs from community to another, even within one community it doesn't occur equally in all places and nor by the same way. It is also concentrated in some places more than others, sometimes increases, sometimes decreases, etc. Previous researches have proved that crime rate has significant correlation with different social factors: education levels, poverty rates and lack of social organization, while others have drawn the attention to its relation with the built environment. They proposed that crime occurs in places where both opportunities and criminals are available. The role of this paper is to identify urban circumstances related to crime occurrence within the Greater Cairo Region, and to propose different ways to reduce these crimes. Consecutively, agglomeration's main districts were scrutinized according to social analysis, street-network pattern and land-use.

We believe that the change of urban policies can give different spectrums to sustainable development strategies by addressing social problems and heritage conservation questions. The delicacy of the issue is a typical 21 st Century problem encountering different contexts. It can be an obstacle for sustainable urban/social development if not addressed correctly. This is why it must be integrated in the strategies proposed by urban policies' decision makers.

This neighbourhood-that has a strong cultural identity expressed by its vernacular architecture, local art and social life-kept resisting gentrification during the last 30 years. As a result, this neighbourhood has shown a great deal of deterioration as a price that had to pay in order to keep its own identity within the Mediterranean city of Valencia. This paper demonstrates the evolution of local and popular neighbourhoods according to adopted urban policies by taking the neighbourhood of El Cabanyal as a case study. Therefore, it will firstly scrutinize the proposed urban policies/strategies by the regional government in order to develop this neighbourhood. Secondly, it will shed light on the participatory design solutions based on the local community involvement, to develop the area without destruction and getting use of its potentials. Finally, it will propose a diagnostic tool and ecological urban solutions that can be elaborated in order to tackle such complex problems.
