Simple Pleasures (original) (raw)

Holy crap, I finished a project! [Aug. 31st, 2008|12:32 am]simple pleasures of everyday life
[mood** |contentcontent]I am pleased as punch with how it turned out. This feeling is definitely a simple joy for me.This thing has been in the works for a year at least (by which I mean that I bought a hoodie, fabric paint, and stencil sheets a year ago.) I tried to cut out one stencil, f-ed it up, and then forgot about it.( Yesterday I decided stencils were pointless.Collapse )**So, anyone with fabric paint experience: I heat-set the paint, but I'm not sure it will stay put- am I going to have to hand wash this or can it go in the machine in cold water or what? Paint bottle gives me no answers!

Today, I was in a little city with my family. They were visiting me at college. The city is very earthy crunchy and "boho" and hippie. I love it. Anyway, it was really really busy because it was friday night, and we were trying to find somewhere to eat. We put our name (Wayne) in at this organic food restaurant I love but the wait was about an hour and we were really hungry. So we decided to go to a nice little mexican "good food fast" place down the street. We just left our name in the queue.Simple joy # 1: Guacamole and quesadillas!!!So after dinner, my mother and I decided to go get some ice cream down the street. The ice cream place was right under the restaurant we were going to go to at first. We got:Simple joy # 2: a hot fudge sunday with REAL chocolate sprinkles, chunks of reese's peanut butter cups, REAL whipped cream, and mud pie ice cream. We enjoyed it out on the stoop. Now, right next to the stoop is the entrance for the organic food restaurant. A group of three walked up. It was a woman, her boyfriend/husband/brother/male acquaintance, and her mother. The boyfriend/husband/brother offered to go check out the wait. And here comes the awesome part.My mom asked the woman if she was going to Paul and Elizabeth's (the restaurant.)She said yes.My mom said to her, "We went there about an hour ago and put our name in but didn't go. The wait was about an hour, so go up and say you're Wayne and you'll get a table really fast." And so the boyfriend/husband/brother went up, and a little bit later, he came down, totally bewildered, and said, "It worked!"So they got to skip the hour long wait! My mother is SO nice. I love her so much. She's very generous and happy and generally appreciates life, and I respect that so much. I really do admire her. And this little moment confirmed it.

Having dinner with my friends. Lindsay and I went to Perkins and just talked. I picked up the check and got a piece of pie to take back to one of our work-overloaded friends.Listening to music on my way to class. It makes the walk that much better! My roommates this year. First time they've been like family. I'm going to miss them. We'll gather around in the common room and watch somebody play video games.Might be silly, but it makes me happy. :)
