As the air brushed his face, Inuyasha continued to look for Kagome, though his thoughts were no on his brief encounter with his brother. Sesshoumaru... as much as I don't understand you, ya turned out to be an older version of me. Kami, was that really what the main difference between the brothers was? Was Sesshoumaru only as cold and detached as he appeared because he was so much older. Does the world have the ability to jade people that much? The more Inuyasha thought on it, the more this seemed likely. He wondered what he would have been like had he been conscious for the 50 years that he was sealed. Upon awakening, he was bitter enough towards women as it was-

Inuyasha looked up as a familiar scent wafted into his nostrils. Kagome! He allowed himself to land heavily on the ground, keeping still to determine the direction from whence the smell came. It was a far way off, but Inuyasha wasn't about to let that deter him. "KAGOME," he yelled into the forest, his own voice echoing amidst the trees and hurting his ears. Finding the direction from which the dim scent came the strongest, Inuyasha quickly took off in that direction, his hand on the hilt of Tetsaiga the whole time.

Kagome... I'm comin' to find you.

sunflowerraven @ 06:48 pm: The Reincarnation's Incarnation (JP: Kagome, Kanna, Naraku)
Kagome held her arms tight to her, hugging them to her body as she glanced around with wide eyes. Human bones were everywhere, thick spider webs hung from the ceiling. The smell of death was suffocating, and made her want to throw up. She had been dropped on the ground, but she didn't make any attempt to rise to her feet... until a large black rat scampered by, brushing across her hand.

"EEEK!" She screamed, and rose to her feet, trembling as she glanced around. This place is disgusting! The question that Naraku inquired of her made her confused, face turning red with embarassment and anger. "W-What is that.. No! Sicko!"

Naraku stood and watched her impassively, trying to hide his growing annoyance. This would not have been such an issue if the girl wore normal clothes, or if he could create incarnations that weren't nude when they were born. He took a step towards her, and lowered his hands to his sides, glaring at her evenly. "You give me too much credit." He spoke dryly. While Kagome did resemble Kikyou, having her would not appease the fact that Onigumo lusted after the undead miko, and no one else. It was a minor victory, but not one he could fully claim.

Kanna slipped in through the wall like a ghostly spirit, holding within her arms a kimono not unlike Kagura's. Holding the kimono like a tray would was her mirror. She walked over to Naraku and wordlessly held the kimono out to him.

Naraku snatched it up and threw it at Kagome. "Remove your clothes, and put that on.. otherwise I'll kill you to do it myself." He snapped, turning to leave the room in a flutter of clothing. "Kanna, make sure she doesn't go anywhere."

Kagome found herself smacked in the face with the beautiful fabric, now left in the hands of the soulless girl. The mirror she held made her feel exceedingly nervous, wishing she had her bow and arrow with her. Everything was left alone, back when Inuyasha.. She sighed, feeling tears form in her eyes. I really screwed up now.. He's going to be so mad.. Inuyasha..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Naraku knelt down in his room, glancing down at the small doll in his hands. The doll that was the heart of a puppet, destroyed only when the creature itself was destroyed. However, this was nothing like the golems he created before. A smirk formed on his face as he shifted his gaze and took in the sight of the school girl standing before him.

"Kagome." He spoke. The girl knelt down before him.

"Naraku-sama." She stated, voice flat and emotionless.

It was easier than he would have ever expected it to be. All it required was adding some hair, some DNA of the actual miko, and now.. he had a clone of her, a mirror image. The clothes she wore would mask Naraku's scent from the puppet for a time, and by the time they figured out that it wasn't really Kagome, it would be too late. Plus.. since it was created from Kagome, Naraku hoped that it would have enough spiritual energy to destroy Inuyasha for good.

"Find Inuyasha and the others. Bring me back the shards of the girl you were created from."

The girl rose to her feet. "Yes, m'lord." Without another word, she turned and exited the castle.

goldeneyedsess @ 04:23 pm: a short understanding
Coming back into himself, Sesshoumaru watched Inuyasha carefully. He was ready to do anything if he continued to shoot that mouth off, but he quickly realized that Inuyasha wasn't going to do it this time. Sesshoumaru relaxed a bit knowing another "attack" wasn't in order. His half brother realized his mistake and so did he and Sesshoumaru was glad that Inuyasha wasn't going to rub his mistake in his face.

"You know,ya might kill me for sayin' it... but you and me really ain't that different."

He glared at the hanyou knowing his words held some truth. Sesshoumaru listened to the rest of Inuyasha's conversation with growing anger. It wasn't anger at the brother in front of him, but anger at himself. He showed a part of himself to someone he never wanted to and as much as he didn't want to admit it that part of himself started to feel for Inuyasha. Even though Kagome was older than Rin, Inuyasha still looked out for her like he looked for Rin.

The inu youkai watched the trees swallow Inuyasha until there was nothing but green encasing him and his thoughts. How can you be so much like a youkai you've never met? I know I'll never be anywhere near Father, but you, you'll be able to reach him in no time even though you are nothing but a hanyou.

Sesshoumaru turned to look away from his brother and to try to gain back his sense of stability. I've almost lost Naraku. Where can you be? What are you trying to do this time?

starry_oblivion @ 11:46 pm:

Inuyasha was about to step away, when he felt a sudden powerful force push him forwards, slamming him against a tree. "Oof!" His cheek scraped against the rough bark, and he could feel Sesshoumaru hindering his movements. He was about to try to push away and attempt to fight back, but the elder youkai's smooth yet angry voice flooded into Inuyasha's ears. Somehow, the fact that Sesshoumaru felt the need to protect Rin from him dissipated his anger, and he stumbled slightly when he was released.

He looked downward. He wanted to tell Sesshoumaru that he didn't have to worry, that he would never stoop so low as to attack a kid just to get to Sesshoumaru; that that was a stunt that the likes of Naraku would pull, and as much as the hanyou was detested by the youkai, Sesshoumaru should know that Inuyasha was nowhere in the same league as Naraku. He wanted to tell Sesshoumaru that he was actually sort of glad to hear that he actually cared about that kid, that it proved that he wasn't as much of an asshole as they both wanted to believe he was and that- though he might be a tough shell to crack- he actually did have a heart beating somewhere beneath all of that armour. He also wanted to say that, though he didn't know why, he was somewhat happy to hear Sesshoumaru call him "a part of Father," since Inuyasha had never really been a part of anyone since his mother died.

But no, Inuyasha couldn't say any of this. Instead, he merely turned his head and looked at Sesshoumaru over his shoulder. It was a strange thing, but it was only at that moment that he noticed any sort of resemblance between the two of them, physically and otherwise. Sesshoumaru had his human to protect and, though he was loathe to admit it, made no effort to hide the fact that she was dear to him, in his own way. Inuyasha felt the same way for Kagome.

Finally, he gave Sesshoumaru a smirk. "You know," he said quietly, "ya might kill me for sayin' it... but you and me really ain't that different." He looked away from Sesshoumaru, though he knew that that had been a mistake of his so shortly before. "Naraku's got Kagome. If ya find him... remember that it wasn't too long ago since she was just like Rin. I'm not sayin' that like askin' for your help or nuthin'... just know that I want her as safe as you'd want the kid." And with that, Inuyasha leapt forwards and was off again on his search, allowing himself to disappear amongst the other trees in the woods.

goldeneyedsess @ 04:11 pm: He heard the sound of metal clash with it's scabbard and turned around. "So he's going to try that again?" thought Sesshoumaru as he inwardly smirked. "Don't you know you can't win?"

He wanted to open his mouth, but the annoying hanyou with the sword beat him to it. "What if I don't wanna be a heartless bastard who doesn't even recognize when he's being a hypocrite?"

A hypocrite? Sesshoumaru listened to more of what Inuyasha was saying, knowing the brash male would say something even more foolish than calling him a hypocrite. Before he had the pleasure of hearing the voice he sarcastically loved, he watched Inuyasha lower his sword in some kind of inner defeat. He wondered why Inuyasha would put his sword down now out of all the other times that sword had come between their words. Trying to figure out his half brother's next move, Sesshoumaru almost missed the words Inuyasha said next.

"...powerful youkai you turned out to be! Placin' yourself on the same level as Dad. Dad was as strong as he was because he never doubted the strength of humans. You'll never be able to match up to him because you're too full'a yourself! Betcha carry around that little human girl like some sorta leverage or something. No other reason I can see why a jackass like you would take a shine to a kid like that."

He let the words sink in and they slowly ate away at him. He knew he wasn't someone his Father would be proud of and he would never think of placing himself on that level, but to say that his Father was strong because of humans made his youkai blood boil. It wasn't the humans who made him stronger. It was the humans who brought him down. He died because of them. He died because of you!

Sesshoumaru found it a little difficult to keep his cool and when the last part of Inuyasha's speech hit him he couldn't hold back the urge to seriously injure Inuyasha.

He found his chance when Inuyasha turned around on him. Moving quickly, he found himself behind Inuyasha in a flash and faster than Inuyasha could bark at him again, Sesshoumaru pinned him to the tree.

Keeping his arm across his back and a leg placed over his legs, he started in on the brother who ruined his life. "I can listen to you talk about me and tell me how I'll never be on the same level as Father and how I'm full of myself, but I will not stand by and have you talk about her that way. She is not leverage and she will never be any sort of leverage. If I see you anywhere near her then I will not hesitate to use Tokijin on you. I don't care if you are a part of Father or not."

Sesshoumaru took released Inuyasha and took a step back to regain his composure. As he talked to Inuyasha he could feel himself flash into something he didn't want to be. He blinked slowly to get rid of the evidence before Inuyasha could see. It would just be something his half brother would use against him later: the human hating Sesshoumaru cares enough about a human girl to protect everything about her.

la_belle_roo @ 06:04 pm: It would be nice if any of this was for me...
Kikyou had only walked off a short way, wondering exactly what would occur between the notoriously difficult brothers. She was proud of how InuYasha chose to act, smiling softly as he sheathed his sword. She started to feel the old longing return, wishing she could run back and hug him, and yet as she heard his last statement she felt her tenous world crumble.

"I've gotta girl to find, and I've wasted enough time talkin' to you and listenin' to your self-righteous bullshit." She knew full well he wasn't talking about her. He couldn't be, not after everything that had occured. She had put him through the wringer, as he had to her, and there was no coming back from everything life had dealt them.

Her heart felt heavy and she fought back tears, trying so hard to stop the track her thoughts were going down. She knew it was all over, it could never be what it was, and yet her heart couldn't accept it.

starry_oblivion @ 02:38 pm:

A low growl formed in Inuyasha's throat as Sesshoumaru lectured him. He looked down, his face covering his bangs. I don't need this shit, he thought, but he couldn't stop himself from listening. Because deep down, no matter how much he tried to admit it, Sesshoumaru was right.

Inuyasha was overwrought with human emotions. Pain, fear, anger... and there was nothing he could do about it. He was part human, after all. The hanyou was slowly beginning to grow tired of fighting against the wave of emotions that he had inherited from his mother's race.

"You'll never be like me and you'll never be like Father."

The growl turned into a snarl, and before he knew what had overcome him, Inuyasha had unsheathed Tetsaiga and brandished it in front of Sesshoumaru, as he had done so often, staring him down with a bright fire in his eyes. He didn't even listen to what Sesshoumaru had to say about his reasons for fighting Naraku. "Shut up! Baka!" His voice came out in a high-pitched bark. "You think I don't know that, huh? Well, what if I don't wanna be like you? What if I don't wanna be a heartless bastard who doesn't even recognize when he's being a hypocrite?"

Inuyasha realized that he wasn't being much of a help to Kagome this way, and put the sword down. "Heh, some powerful youkai you turned out to be! Placin' yourself on the same level as Dad. Dad was as strong as he was because he never doubted the strength of humans. You'll never be able to match up to him because you're too full'a yourself!" In a lower voice, Inuyasha turned away from him as he said, "Betcha carry around that little human girl like some sorta leverage or something. No other reason I can see why a jackass like you would take a shine to a kid like that."

He sheathed Tetsaiga and began to walk away, shaking his head. "Forget it. Even with the kid, you'll never understand. I've gotta girl to find, and I've wasted enough time talkin' to you and listenin' to your self-righteous bullshit."

goldeneyedsess @ 12:31 am: Sesshoumaru took his eyes off of the miko when a loud voice interrupted them. He knew that unrefined tone anywhere and glared at his half brother before bringing his golden eyes back to Kikyo. Seeing her nod and turn around, he could sense some emotion that he didn't ever care to use. He knew about Inuyasha's past with that miko and how their emotions got in the way of stopping an evil before it started. He also knew Inuyasha was still wrapped up in those emotions, so it wasn't a surprise when the half-breed jumped down beside him saying the miko's name.

"Why don't you run after her?" he asked with his head held high. "You could easily catch up to her, but you stopped. Why? Are you afraid of her? Are you afraid of your human emotions?"

Sesshoumaru turned his back on the hanyou, "Hmph, you cannot move forward, so you stay in the past. Don't you get tired of yelling at me like that? It never seems to go anywhere and yet, you don't stop. Is it easier to take it out on me? Just know that one day I might not want to listen to your whining and then where will you be?

What were we talking about? Are you so afraid that I'm going to do something to your poor miko? Nothing I can do to her can compare to what you've done to her. It was nothing that concerned you and I'm sure Kagura needs your help, so why don't you go back to that hut and let me handle Naraku. You'll never be strong enough to kill him. You'll never be like me and you'll never be like Father."

Sesshoumaru took a step away from Inuyasha. "Naraku has overstepped his boundaries and he must pay for his actions. He is not fit to walk on this ground, so I must make sure he doesn't take one more step. Is that a good enough reason for you, Inuyasha?"

taijya_no_kioku @ 05:29 pm: Argh! Listen to me! I need to be heroic, darnit!
Kirara's growlings got louder, when she landed. Sango felt uneasy, she could sense something: although she wasn't as spiritually inclined as the monk, and it made her feel uneasy. The monk was seen from this new perspective, and then something..

No sooner did Sango climb off her feline companion did she hear Miroku's voice call out. Sango's eyes widened as she felt resistance in her running: Kirara had grabbed onto one of the sleeves of her yukata and was tugging her back.

"No! Kirara! Let me go!" She screamed, tugging, turning back to watch with widened eyes as Miroku was pulled under. "No! Houshi-sama!" Tug, tug. "Kirara, let me go! I have to save him!"

Kirara started gently pulling on her, leading her further away from the water. The taijya released a choked sob, as she tugged harder. Lucky for Kirara and perhaps unlucky for her, she wasn't at her full strength. Unfortunately for Sango, Kirara wasn't stupid. She knew that her friend wasn't up to 100 percent, and that drove Sango nuts.

"No! Houshi-sama! Houshi-sama!"

I have to save him! He's going to die, because of me! I have to do something_!_ The urge to rip her sleeve was overwhelming. Of course, her hidden blade was in her right arm, and guess which sleeve Kirara grabbed?

That cat was certainly crafty. Perhaps... too crafty.

With a strong nudge, Kirara picked the taijya up on her back, and soon began flying off. "Put me down! Houshi-sama!" She yelled again, voice cracking slightly due to the extra strain. The river got smaller and smaller..

Kirara hated to do this, but she had no choice. She wanted her human to be safe, even though she was currently pounding on her back, making strangled sobbing noises that were painful for the feline to hear.

"You have to take me back!" Sango pleaded to Kirara. "He... he's going to die.. because of me! I have to go help..." The feline said nothing, and resumed flying back to Kaede's hut. Once there, she touched down, and pushed Sango off. Since she couldn't put up much along the lines of resistance, she was knocked off easily, and with what could almost be regarded as an apologetic glance from Kirara, the large feline took off, without giving Sango a chance to climb back on.

Sango watched with silent horror at the feline flew away. "Houshi-sama..." She trailed off, hands clenching into fists.

cursed_houshi @ 03:38 pm: Angst, anyone?

Putting his thumb to his mouth, Mirku marveled at his own stupidity for pricking his finger against a rose. How foolish. What was I going to do with it anyway? The answer came back far more quickly than he had expected. Give it to Sango, of course.

At the thought of the girl, he heard her voice speaking quietly back where he had left her. Though she may very well had been speaking to Kirara, Miroku did not want to risk her speaking to him and simply ignoring it. Raising himself up to his knees, he looked at Sango. "Were you speaking to me?"

No sooner had the words left his mouth when he felt it. An odd sensation, an unsettling feeling at the pit of his stomach as the back of his neck tingled. Youkai. Sensing the jyaki behind him, Miroku turned. There was no figure behind him but... something about the water was odd. He suddenly recalled his own words, that they would have to be careful lest they encounter similar youkai again. His eyes lowered, and he saw a rather large shape in the water, making its way quickly towards him.

Everything then happened far too quickly.

Miroku quickly jumped to his feet, the herbs he had collected clenched tightly in his hand. "Kirara," he called. "Get Sango out of here!" A shadow was cast over him as the sound of something emerging from the water invaded his ears. Before he could turn, he felt something wet and tentacle-like snake across his waist. His eyes widened as Kirara and Sango became smaller, and he realized he was being pulled back. He took a deep breath... and then was submerged in the water.
