Hmmm, I don't think I mentioned this to anyone except tininess, but my computer had to be wiped two weeks ago. I think I had accidentally deleted something from my registry or got a virus that deleted something, since I couldn't start my computer past the welcome screen. I wiped my laptop and reinstalled Windows, thereby getting a pristine piece of machinery. My losses weren't too tragic: the most recent files on stuff I was editing, my bookmarks, and some video files, and my copy of Photoshop Elements and regular Photoshop. A lot of it was backed up on the the basement computer as I like to clean my laptop every few months. Oh well, at least I don't have to think about all the stuff I had in my to-be-recced bookmarks folder.

So,

Psych is this fun show on USA about a fake psychic detective, Shawn Spencer, and his best friend Gus working cases for the Santa Barbara Police. Shawn is a lot of fun and is played by James Roday, who is just adorable in the role as he really gets into the character making Shawn as extroverted as possible. The other main characters include Shawn's father who taught/trained Shawn in the arts of being a detective, Detective Lassiter, the head detective who doesn't believe that Shawn has any sort of psychic powers, and Juliet, Lassiter's junior partner and the more naive half of the duo.

Between the Lines by regann (oneshot, Shawn/Lassiter) Summary: Lassiter can't help but be disgusted by the idea of Spencer and O'Hara dating, just like he can't help it that he and O'Hara have the same bad taste in men. But maybe Lassiter's not seeing what he thinks he is. ~7,000 words

A good starter fic to get into the pairing as I adore all of regann's works and her take on the characters of Psych. Cute and funny.

Every Resume Needs an Explanation by formerlydf (oneshot, kind of Shawn/Gus, Shawn/OMC, pre-slash Shawn/Lassiter) Kind of back stories for Shawn's resume posted on the USA website. Nicely done exposition, and I am all a giggle over Shawn's last job.

Quarter Life Crisis by pookaseraph (series, complete, Shawn/Lassiter) summary: Shawn has been working for the police for over six months now, the longest he's ever held a single job. All the new found maturity is leaving him feeling itchy, but maybe he can figure out how keep it up while holding down a relationship while he's at it.

This is a really a well put together fic. While this isn't a classic Psych fic where there's a crime to solve and a plot to get through, this fic runs the gambit of what it would take for Shawn and Carlton to actually try to make a relationship between the two of them work. I really like where this fic goes in terms of the acknowledging the hurdles each would have to jump while not degenerating into a total angst fest.

Conflict Resolution by fearlessfan (oneshot, gen, Shawn, Lassiter) Summary: Why Carlton Lassiter punched Shawn Spencer, and how they got past it.

Read Between the Lines; or, Slash and the Modern Psychic Investigatorby xparrot (oneshot, crack, Shawn/Gus, Shawn/Lassiter)

I don't normally like fics where the characters discover slash, but xparrot does a great job making this seem like a realistic discovery while still keeping the ridiculousness of Shawn et al.

A Whisper to the Living by xparrot (complete, gen, futurefic)

Set ten years in the future, this is a look at the world of psych after tragedy has struck. What I like about this fic besides the cool premise and the interesting take on the characters, is how dark it is. Psych isn't a series where angst is usually fostered, so xparrot's work was a really good introduction to the darker side of Psych. It left me wanting more of this universe and more of Shawn.
