Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. What if they are a little coarse, and you may get your coat soiled or torn? What if you do fail, and get fairly rolled in the dirt once or twice. Up again, you shall never be so afraid of a tumble. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you've never heard Eighteen by Hometown Hero, you're welcome.

Guster's Either Way is pretty fantastic, too. I didn't mean to be all, "MY MUSIC IS GREAT" and shoving it in people's faces today, but my MP3 player's on a good run right now, and I'd be remiss not to recognize it. Great lyrics, see?

Thing I Wish I Wrote Of The Day:

You were almost kind, you were almost true Don't let me see that other side of you You have learned in time that you must be cruel I'll have to wait to get the best of you Poison in everything you say Don't you, don't you Wonder what difference does it make......Either way You were almost kind, you were almost true Why give away that other side of you Happens every time, so it must be true Step on a kid, he'll grow up hating you Poison in everything you say Don't you, don't you Wonder what difference does it make....Either way Were you ever kind, were you always cruel? Who's ever seen that other side of you? Happened every time, so it must be true? Where did you learn it's either him or you? You were almost kind, you were almost true Don't let me see that other side of you You have learned in time that you must be cruel I'll have to wait to get the best of you Poison in everything you say Don't you, don't you? Wonder what difference does it make......Either way Either way

Ahhh, lovely. That "poison in everything you say" line is poetry, man. Poetry.

Anyways, though, I'm here to say what I meant to say yesterday before everything in the world got trumped by "Spocktoberfest."

Yesterday in history was relatively dull by my standards, but it was the birthday of the universe, according to Johannes Kepler. Scientists these days would disagree with him by a couple billion years - he thought the universe started on April 27th, 4977 BC, apparently. That's not really what amused me about this historical factoid, though. What amused me was that Kepler took the place of the man with what I am convinced is the kick-buttiest name of all time: Tycho Brahe. It's so awesome, it sounds fictional. Like it should always be in bold type.

Also, the position Kepler inherited from Tycho Brahe was "royal mathematician to the Holy Roman Emperor." Now... why did the Roman Emperor need a mathematician? There were b.s. jobs even back then.

Next up, NETFLIX WINS. They have the first two seasons of River Monsters on instant play. Halle-freakin-lujah!

Pictured: badass.

I want him to come to the Mississippi and catch one of these guys:

Smalltooth sawfish. I don't know if they classify as river monsters, but they're reported to reach lengths of over twenty feet. That's scary enough in my book. Even if several feet of that is nose, their noses look like saw blades. Come on.

As for events around Houston these days, I won't be available for much since I agreed to work weekends for this doctor-guy. But there is an Artwalk in Galveston this weekend. I remember those from my days of working on the Strand. The only place where my fourteen-year-old sister could get as much wine as she wanted and walk around with it in public. Ahh, Galveston! How I love thee.

This isn't really an event, necessarily, since you don't have to be there for it, but I've recently discovered that the owner of my favorite website of all time has a radio show. The website? The Shadowlands. The guy? Dave Juliano. His show is on the internet radio station Para-X radio, 6pm on Fridays. I'm going to try my best to tune in tomorrow. Paranormal Straight Talk. I can't wait!

Aaaand lastly: a preview of coming attractions. I heard of a phenomenon called "total body disruption" yesterday. Apparently it has something to do with what can happen to you if you're too near an explosion. I have to be functional at work today, so I won't be telling you all about it today. Tomorrow's probably a good bet, though. :)

It's almost Friday! Slainte!
