sidekick_fics - Profile (original) (raw)

Welcome to sidekick_fics! This is a place for dedicated supporters (you don't even have to be a major supporter) of ron/hermione to read, submit, and write r/hr fanfiction. Below are some rules, guidelines, and other information about this community. Anyone looking to contact me, the moderator, should either contact me at my journal, takemeunder23, or at my e-mail (preferrable) sidekick_fics@yahoo.com. Before becoming a member, it is recommended you read the rules.

Rules for sending me an e-mail:

I'm really bad with remembering e-mail addresses, and to ensure your e-mail does not get deleted, I'd be greatly appreciative if you'd do the following:

1. Put the following in the subject of the e-mail: subject[Exp: question, submission, etc.] from username. Please put your lj username in the subject. I'll be able to keep track of users better than e-mail addresses, as I will be more use to the user name and not the address.

2. Do not send me an e-mail just for fun. If you want to be an lj friend, go to my personal journal and friend me there. E-mail at that e-mail address. This e-mail is strictly for this community, not for friends.

3. If you are sending me your work to look over or something, please do not send it all at once if it is extremely long. I do not have the space to have tons of large e-mails, so if you would like me to look it over and it is a large piece, warn me in the first installment so I can try to make room for it.

Rules for submitting fanfiction:

All submitted fanfiction must comply with the following rules:

1. There must be some sort of R/Hr in it. They can fight as much as you want them to, they can even end up apart at the end (but they can't be happy about it), but at some point in the story (that is longer than five seconds, I don't want "they were together, and then they broke up").

2. Other ships may be present in the story, but they must not be slash, teacher/student, human/animal, or some other ship like that. These ships could include one part of r/hr at some point in the story, but again, r/hr must be together at some point.

3. Stories must try to follow cannon, unless they are AU or unless I have given permission for a story including really OOC people. This is another reason for no slash or other such ships- it is not cannon. JKR would not put such things into her stories, although they happen in real life.

4. Stories can be any length. If they're challenges, unless specified, they should be a 1,000 words or more, but your own works that aren't challenge pieces are fine at any length.

5. STORIES MUST NOT BE NC-17. I'd be greatful if you'd also try to steer away from R stories, but I will allow these. However, all ratings, G-R, must be appropriately labeled outside of the cut containing the story.

6. YOUR STORY DOES NOT NEED TO ADHEAR TO A CHALLENGE. You may submit other R/Hr fanfiction that you have written, as long as if complys with all other rules.

7. It might be wise to get a beta reader to look over your story before submitting. Perfect Imagination has a large listing of beta readers, and I could try looking it over for you. I've never really beta read before, but it's something I'm willing to try.

8. ANYONE NOT SURE IF THEIR STORY COMPLIES WITH ALL THE RULES, PLEASE SEND IT TO ME TO LOOK OVER. If it does not comply with one or more of the rules, I will e-mail you back with some suggestions on how to make it comply.

Rules for submitting challenges:

I will be making challenges myself, but all members (and non-members) are welcome to send challenges.

1. If you are not a member, please e-mail your challenge. You can become a member and post it yourself, or you can remain a non-member and send it to me and I will post it (with full credit to you).

2. If you are a member, you can post it without my approval, or you can e-mail it to me, I'll look at it, and then tell you if it's okay'ed for submission, and then you or I can post it (if I do, you'll get full credit). If you post a challenge that does not adhear to the rules you are expected to take it down when contacted.

3. All rules that apply to submiting fanfiction apply here. So, no challenges for NC17 fics, or R if it can be helped. The following is a template of how your challenge should look when submitting:

Other ships to be present: (limit 2, please)
Things to include in the challenge: (limit 5, please)
Things not to include in the challenge: (Limit 7, please)
Things that I'd like in the challenge, but are not required: (limit 3, please, and do not expect any or these to be fullfilled by the writer. These are optional, so only put things here you could do without)
How many people can write for this challenge: (there is no limit here, but don't put too many. If too many write for one challenge, they will become dull and people may not read all of them)
Any other notes: (is there anything that doesn't fall into the above areas you'd like the writer to include?)

Rules for writing challenge pieces:

1. First, you must comment on the entry the challenge came from. That way, the title of the entry can be modified to show how many spaces are left for this particular challenge. All challenges are saved to the memory portion, and any looking to fill past challenges can go there and see any which have not been filled.

2. You will be given a dead line upon applying for the fic. Deadlines (this is currently experimental, I've never done deadlines before) will be roughly two months from your comment time.

3. You must send in a weekly status report to me via e-mail. You can tell me as little or as much about the story as you want, but you must tell me that you've made some progress on it. All status reports should be sent no later then Saturday night, as I will check for them on Sunday. If you wish to submit yours on, for example, a Wednesday, then your status report the next week should fall as close to a Wednesday as possible, and should be close to a Wednesday every week.

4. If you miss three status reports in a row, without having contacted me to let me know you would be missing some, your challenge will be considered "abandoned" and opened back up for other members. If you see your fic reopened and would like to continue working on it, you can re-comment and will be chosen once more, along with another who wishes to write that challenge (should there be another).

5. If you are unable to meet the deadline, you must contact me no later than three days ahead of the deadline to let me know. You must give me a valid reason as to why you are unable to finish the story on the deadline, and I will extend it. Writer's block will be considered a valid excuse, but you must assure me the fic is well on it's way once more, I will be forced to reopen the challenge for others to write.

Rules for posting fanfiction or challenge pieces:

1. I'd like it if all fics were beta read (see Perfect Imagination and try to find someone to beta read it.

2. If writing for a challenge and will not be able to meet the deadline because your beta reader is still looking over your story, let me know and I will be happy to extend your deadline.

3. Stories that are questionable on rule guidelines can be first sent to me to look over, or they can be posted right away. If they are posted and I deem them too far out of the rules, I will ask you to take them down, post them in your own journal, and simply leave a link to it with a warning that it does not fit all the rules (specify which rule it is breaking).

4. Stories that do meet the guidelines with no question can be posted right to the community, without having to e-mail them to me. However, if you'd like to, or if you'd simply like me to try and beta-read it, feel free to e-mail me.

Please review for any story you read, tell them what you liked about the story, give some constructive critiscism (that is, do not flame them). These people would like the be appreciated for their efforts.

Any questions, suggestions, or anything of the sort concerning the rules, community, content, or anything in general should be sent to my e-mail adress: sidekick_fics@yahoo.com. I'm on the internet a lot (although usually in the afternoon time), so it will usually only take a day for me to get back to you.
