The morning was sunny and bright as Craig, Wayne, Raven and Cali set off towards the docks to catch the boat. Raven hobbled slightly as hiking every day had begun to make her muscles quite sore. She was a dog who loved the job- she loved sniffing around and pleasing her handler, but with age she became wearier more quickly. That didn’t stop her though. As well, Cali, who was usually quite energetic, now walked alongside her mother more stiffly and was reluctant to charge ahead at anything. She loved when the group stopped for their lunch break as both the dogs as well as their handlers could rest up before heading out again.

The boat ride was calm and peaceful and usual. The whole group slept the whole way there, catching up on their sleep and resting up for the day full of hiking ahead. The gentle sound the the waves lapping up against the boat as it travelled lulled them to sleep.

When they pulled into the docks 45 minutes later, Cali was already awake. She licked Craig’s and Wayne’s faces and prodded Raven with her paw. The older dog got up reluctantly and stretched out her well muscled body. The group hopped out of the boat and, once they were set, began their day-long hike.

As the sun rose into the sky the dogs wandered about the forest as per usual, going at a relaxed pace but still curious and energetic whenever they found a scent. The jungle was new to them- even though they had been at Alpas for a little over a week, generally the jungle was a new terrain filled with all sorts of new and exciting smells. Thier noses worked overtime trying to decipher and find all of them. They continued for a while until it was time for their lunch break. Craig set up their stuff and the guys chowed down on some sandwiches while their dogs rested or begged for food (yes, you, Cali). It was hard to get up again with the heat of the day pressing down on them, sleep began to creep up. But they packed up their stuff and continued along, determined to explore as much terrain as they could.

Later in the evening they wandered around the beach, heading towards the little beach island at the top right corner of their map. The dogs eagerly jumped into the ocean to feel its coolness and reached the smaller island. Their handlers swam over as well, finding relief from the heat. The sun was turning the sky pink and they quickly searched the island, enjoying the peacefulness of it before they had to swim over the small channel of water to get back to the main island. Sopping wet, the dogs shook themselves and the guys drained water out of their clothes before boarding the boat back to Siping.Word Count: 481
