Character descriptions - Mizzi Caspar (original) (raw)

I think I've been sitting on my Mizzi description for long enough, and might as well post it. It's been a bit difficult to write it since I have only very little information on her, especially at this point in time, and I'll probably know better when I start playing her exactly how I'm going to interpret her. But here are some thoughts and basic things about her, most of them just extrapolations on the things I do know or things that I feel could fit, rather than facts from history books. If I think of more details that would be good to have posted for everyone to read, I'll edit this description to add them.

Oh, and there are various spellings of Mizzi's name depending on which book you read (Mitzi Kaspar is seen quite often), but I use this one since it's what Brigitte Hamann and other newer books seem to use. Doesn't bother me if someone else is used to spelling her name differently, though.

Marcella Caspar, called Mizzi, is a pretty young woman, 22 years of age. She lives in Graz, where she grew up, and officially makes her living as a singer and a dancer in popular places. If well-to-do gentlemen find her pleasurable company, and also often wish to enhance the material comfort of her life, this is not unwelcome. She has friends, such as Madame Wolf, who are kind enough to arrange contacts with pleasant gentlemen. All quite discreetly, of course.

It is true that she thus does not exactly respect the demands of chastity – but then, how many people do? And she remains unbound to a man, relatively free to live as she chooses. Perhaps she has to listen to the demands of her current gentleman friend somewhat, but she is still free to leave a man whom she finds tiresome, which would not be the case if she simply married to assure her comfort.
Mizzi is uncomplicated, cheerful and loves life and its enjoyments. She likes beautiful and pleasurable things, but what ladies of high social circles would call sophisticated and highly cultured often only seems pretentious and strange to her. She is intelligent, well capable of learning and understanding things, but does not care to focus on overly complicated things for no reason. Instead she prefers to attend a popular music performance or a theatre, read an enjoyable novel or better still, go for a carriage ride or for a walk in a beautiful environment with pleasant people to converse with. She enjoys visiting the imperial capital, Vienna, but really finds it more comfortable and practical to remain in Graz as long as nothing requires her to leave it permanently.

****

And just because decent pictures of Mizzi aren't exactly floating around the web, I thought I'd post a bigger version of the picture I've used for my avatar, so you may all have some idea of what she looks like.
