A music-themed rhythm game/dating simulator hybrid.

Melody of Hearts is a game in which players can pursue various love interests at a music school. Through careful decisions and skillful playing of rhythm games, players need to impress their desired musician. Dialogue choices and rhythm games both affect the hidden affection score between the player and the love interest. The love interests are represented by the instrument they play, creating a playful representation of each character.

During the visual novel portion of the game, the player makes dialogue choices which can affect their relationship score with the current character and change the direction of the storyline. Relationship scores are checked at various points of the game to decide which ending the player will receive.

Rhythm games also affect progress of the storyline. Players use the arrow keys to play the rhythm game. By choosing to play either the blue or the yellow arrows in addition to the white arrows, the player makes an important decision in the storyline. The player's score on the overall rhythm game also impacts the relationship score with the currently chosen character.

The professor is your guide throughout the game. He helps navigate through the tutorial of the game, and he is responsible for setting you up with each of the love interests. The professor does not have an official route, and therefore does not have any associated endings.

Leo is an easily angered character who has a soft spot for someone sweet. His route is characterized by a pink color scheme, many angry faces, and dialogue which will make you question if he likes you. Leo's route features a Bad End, Friendship End, and Dating End.

Elise is a shy character who is easily flustered. Her route is characterized by a blue color scheme, harder rhythm game levels, and many blushing faces. Elise's route features a Bad End, Friendship End, and Dating End.
