In this year of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, Archbishop Prendergast HOSTED his brother bishops from across Canada in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada with them. This
Solemn Mass was held at Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica at 3:30 p.m. The faithful were invited to join the bishops in the
consecration of Canada to our Blessed Mother.

OTTAWA – From coast to coast, many Canadian bishops consecrated their dioceses to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Canada Day weekend. They did so at the invitation of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (CCCB) Permanent Council to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

This event is tied to a number of historic events : Canada’s 150th, the 170th anniversary of the foundation of the diocese/archdiocese of Bytown-Ottawa on June 25, 1847; the 70th of the Marian Congress held in 1947 to mark the centennial of the diocese/archdiocese and, with prayers for peace, the 100th of the Fatima apparitions. Canada was consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1947 at the Marian Congress.

Blessed Sacrament Parish Ottawa - June 20, 2017
As part of the celebrations of the 70th Anniversary of the 1947 Marian Congress, Father Yves Marchildon C.C. and Father Dennis Hayes C.C. and parishioners of Annunciation of the Lord Parish joined Blessed Sacrament Parish for a wonderful evening. Father Tremblay Rector of Our Lady of the Cape Shrine delivered a dynamic message. Decadent Doms served up deserts and fancy franks.

Diocesan Feast Day Celebration
At Notre Dame Cathedral, Thurs., June 8, 7:30 p.m.
To commemorate the Marian Congress of 1947 and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our diocese, and the Consecration of Canada to our Blessed Mother which occurred during that congress. There was a beautiful procession from the Chapel at the Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa to Notre Dame Cathedral. Leading the procession was a replica statue of Our Lady of the Cape identical to the one that was used in the consecration of Canada to the Blessed Mother seventy years ago.
